Advice about table centres-Giant cupcake??

sorry am I missing a point here..or were you worried about the small children eating cyrstals?....will your cupcake look quite so good if a little one has gone round and taken a bite out of it?
Its a brave idea but cant help thinking your table centres may dissappear way too quickly before the reception is over....

Actually thinking about it its an awful lot of work to produce edible centrepieces...I assume each one will have to be made and iced or decorated at fairly short notice ie its not something that you can easily make and store with a few weeks to spare...then each of them will need to be transported quite delicatley to the venue and placed in situ before the reception...something to bear in mind is if this is done early morning for an afternoon reception and the weather is hot, your cake may lose some of its glory...and as for who would take it home well after its sat that length of time in the middle of a table I suspect it would only be good for decoration purposes and possibly not that edible...frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!

Hmmm... The giant cup cake will be a right mess once people start hacking at it, especially the children when they get bored during the speeches.
As for worrying about children eating crystals, I had jelly beans instead, although I did put all the children together on one themed table.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
I just bought one of those cupcake moulds from The Works yesterday for £5.99. I feel like I've been ripped off! :-P0

wow alot of responses lol
i can make these up and freeze them so thats not a problem as like someone mentioned they may not want to be eaten after sitting all day on a atable so they can get binned. the buttercream sets hard and believe me looks exactly the same a week after its been made obv its just the taste that isnt so great after a length of time.
Will be people from same household on tables so not mixed and it would just be "oh if u want it take it " att he end.
Im really hoping kids dont get bored as Im providing large boxes of stuff to do to prevent meltdowns (im a mum of 2 so know how bad they can be and how quick they arrive! lol)
The thing with the doing a centrepiece of them for every table is the cost of stands-it works out alot cheaper to make giant cupcakes and get a more wow affect plus i would still like a cupcake tower for wed cake so this wouldnt work as then id have millions of cupcakes (but i dont think there would be an issue with them going as i keep finding as parties i have to make enough for 2 pp!!)
I love the plaster idea i was trying to think this moring of a way of making them but minus the cake so thanks for that one!!
I keep picturing them on a mirror plate with a flag in the top and really like it more and more but obv something i need to think about in more detail once i dont have to rascals screaming next to me
thanks again everyone! xMarrying the love of my life May19th 2012

Considering the cost and the difficulty involved in creating a giant cupcake - I personally would far rather do a cupcake stand - filled with enough cupcakes per table.
Something like this:
Yes the issue with this is the cost of stands even more so is i would want matching. At something silly of £10 + per one its a lot cheaper to do a giant cake. (approx £2 each) they look nice though and i did ponder that idea
xxHi op
aaaaarrrrgggggh hot pink gerberas!!
my wedding colour was hot pink and black with the hot pink gerbera being the theme and I even started to dream about them.they became an obsession.where abouts are you as i know where they stock them 69p a stem.
I will also try to post the piccies of what i did tomorrow
Im in north west. I remember googling for 2 months every night searching and could only ever find us! then I came across micheal dark by chance who do them for £1.75 but thats on a very long stem and seem such a shame de stemming them
nightmare isnt it i would change flower but i had my heart set on them and have bought matching things for invites/stationary xx Marrying the love of my life May19th 2012

The plaster cupcake thing could be the way to go - but maybe do papier mache ones?? I don't have any idea if that would work - I'm just thinking that they are likely to be lighter to transport??
I like the idea - you could always put a gerbera on top of the cupcake!?!?Why does nobody say Thank You anymore??:mad:Debt Free as of September 2011 :jSealed Pot 2009 number 334 - £100 Saved! yey!!Sealed Pot 2010 number 334 - £116.51 Saved! Yey!! YIPPEE!!0 -
Hi
Just wandered onto this thread - don't normally hang out here!
Anyway, my idea was what about having cupcake candles instead of real cupcakes? Then can light them too if evening do?
Just a thought ... (saves having too many real cupcakes and also can be taken home by guests if not lit)
(wanders off to check out grabbits....
