o2 contract question

I have 7 months to run on a 24 month O2 contract.I replaced the originally supplied phone with a Blackberry Storm bought on Ebay but I am now having lots of problems with it and the screen is broken.
As I don't have the money for a new 'good' phone I think the only way is to abandon this contract and start a new one so I can get a good phone and a better tariff. Sounds a bit daft but I can't think of a better way. Would I be able to keep my number or is it tied to the original contract?
Any thoughts on something better to do ( and no I can't make do with a cheapy phone - you know what its like )
Any ideas gratefully received.
Thanks a lot.

Considering you'll have to pay 7x your monthly tariff to cancel wouldn't you be better of putting that money towards buying a new handset ?0

How can I do that when I have to run the full 24 months?0

When you put you were thinking of 'abandon this contract' I thought you meant you were going to pay it off?
You mean you're thinking of running 2 contracts side by side ? As you're past the half way point you may be able to drop your contract down by one tariff, that would save you a bit?0 -
As I said I'm not using crap phone, original given to my dad.will try to drop a tariff though thanks0
