What Would You Do? - Car Damaged In Car Park

Hi all,
My brother borrowed my car earlier whilst I serviced his, he went to the local Sainsbuys, and caught a lady wiping the side of her (rental! :rotfl:) car up the side of my car. No major damage but it's left a nasty scrape and scuff on the bumper.

Now she saw in my brother in her mirror and saw my brother had seen her, so did drive around the car and come back and exchange details..

I have a her details, what do I do?

-Ignore it, my car is only a 15 year old Nissan Primera.
-Call her and name a figure to just "forget about it."
-Persue it through the insurers?

I know the car was a retal car, and she's seriously dented it, so I know she's about to have a massive bill landed on her by Enterprise!

Regards,
Andy

Put it through the insurers and claim a courtesy car for when it's being repaired.

My car would just be written off, it's a fifteen year old Primera with 140,000 miles on it!

I 'd have thought there was insurance as part of the rental and there would be an excess on this. So if she's paying that excess anyway (just on the damage to the car) and it's not going to cost her much extra, you may as well get your hand into the pot.

Whatever you do, if you make a claim your insurance will go up. Even if it's no fault, your ncd won't be affected, but your basic premium will, and you will have to declare it for 3 or 5 years, and so will your brother. Whereas if the damage isn't worth worrying about, and you hadn't noticed, you have a scuff on a car that you don't care about. She could have easily driven away without telling you, so is it worth it?

Time to stock up on some good Karma and tell her not to worry about.

But she drove into my car due to her low driving standard, and because she didn't drive like sensible person and reverse into the space and like a substandard driver drove in "nose first" I've now got a massive mark on my car.

I think I'm gonna call her and tell her £50 to make it "go away".

You'll probably get more than £50 from insurance all things considered.

Parking nose in is often best at supermarkets to get your shopping in the boot ;) (unless you have a Porsche 911, Toyota MR2, Skoda Rapid etc).
  • If you dont declare it, There is a chance she may give the hire company your details and say you caused the damage.

Whenever I back in I can always push my trolley down the car that parked too close to me though.
I wouldn't think anyone would settle a hire car privately, the hire car company will be putting the claim through anyway.
