accident in tesco

Perhaps a sensible first step would be for mum to talk to the store manager. The likelihood is that the area in question will be covered by CCTV, which will clearly show staff and customers stepping over the lady. Things can then be taken from there..................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

I used to work part time in ASDA while I was in school. We had a policy where palettes were not allowed on the shop floor until after 10/11pm. There was also a limit of 1 cage per aisle at any given time until 10pm.
These rules were often broken especially over christmas time when there is a big demand for replenishment.
Supermarkets do tend to tread very carefully with incidents concerning customer and staff health and safety. For example, if a jar or bottle smashed and there was glass/liquid on the floor, a member of staff would not be allowed to leave the site of the breakage/spillage unattended and must wait for another member of staff to fetch cleaners or clean the area. This was a precaution to prevent accidents, but primarily to prevent compensation claims from customers.
Supermarkets will also tend to do anything to protect their reputation as the competition is so fierce. I saw people get refunds/vouchers for items that were not even on sale in ASDA as they were making such a scene on the shop floor. So in all likelyhood Tesco will be more than willing to compensate you to some degree outside of the courts.0 -
I have no problem with boxes/crates around any supermarket...it's the customers with their inconsiderate abandoning of trollies in the most stupid of places whilst they wander off to find something the missed 3 aisles ago!0

I always find it impossible to believe the stories where its claimed that "nobody" helps and people "step over"
Dont get me wrong i believe the general story and do sympathise but i find these things are often greatly exaggerated.
I cant believe anybody "stepping over" somebody in distress on the floor. Most would look on gormlessly or avoid them....
As for the staff, they would either do as above or would be running to notify correctly trained staff, collect first aid (or calling 999 if it was perceived to be serious enough to warrant a call)
Usually this "nobody helping" malarkey comes from the fact that not all people will help, but some (especially the staff) do.
I think that part must be made up.
Still put it into tesco but id word it as maybe they could have been faster/more efficient in checking if she was ok rather than getting first aid or whatever. OR maybe that they could have handled the accident book records better, rather than accusing them of things you cannot now to be true.
I really dont want to be rude, just want to point out that things are never that extreme and id bet good money that cctv would show staff rushed to help.Back by no demand whatsoever.0 -

They can stay open until midnight, my nearest one does. Good point though.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
blimey! I go to bed and come back to read all this!!
For those who asked why my dad didnt try to do anything- when it initially happened he was elsewhere in the store picking something else up. As soon as he saw what had happened to her he was with her trying to calm her and ask someone for help.
And that Tesco stays open until midnight on Saturday.
I have a plan of action, none of which require solicitors. Thank you very much to those who have been of help, its very much appreciatedI’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Health & Beauty, Greenfingered Moneysaving and How Much Have You Saved boards.
