  • MikeyWills... I too am looking at purchasing a new wife / washing machine! :)

Thanks for the vaulable post, it has been a great help to my wife and I! We have take a look at some of the Miele's and have decided to get one!
Be ALERT - The world needs more LERTS
  • My track record on WM is pretty poor, judging this over nearly 40 yearsworth now and will certainly be in the buying a new model quite soon. The model at the moment is a Whirlpool 1150 spin..The spin is poor it sometimes decides to leak water out of the front seams(not to often)I have to give the door a bit of a shove for it to work and the programme selector often will not do what is selected. Just to add that also the heater works sometimes to top it all. It is my 2nd Whirlpool. I have had 3 Hoover makes of various models and cannot remeber what other auto's. The most reliable was the first set up I had of a secondhand washer with a seperate spinner for £9.00 but would never ever want to go back to almost a manual systemtype...
Good info on the Miele and I know there reputation is excellent....I just cannot imagine having the same WM for 25 Years though.......
  • Be careful though - I'm pretty sure that not everything with 'Miele' on the front is actually made by Miele. (This is standard for washing machines - most of them are not made by the company whose logo is on the front).

Sadly DH is out atm, but I'll post further when I get a chance to clarify with him!

  • Thanks mikeywills. This is my first house and money is going to be pretty tight, so it might come down to how much money we've got left. I don't want to take any credit to pay for our appliances.

jobbingmusician - if you can post a update - I'd appreciate it.
Love MSE, Las Vegas and chocolate!
  • If it has a very fast spin speed it will also be temperamental and refuse to spin at all sometimes. I bought one with a fast spin thinking it would be better but you have to be very careful how you load it. I only found out after reading the link someone posted above (I read it a while ago), you cannot wash heavy things and lightweight things in the same wash or else the drum will not be balanced and so it will refuse to spin. In practice that means you cannot throw a towel in with bed linen (nothing to do with colour – even if everything was white and lightly soiled). Now that I know that it is fine, before I found out I was having a man round every so often and he would say he could find nothing wrong.
  • With my Whirlpool at 1050 spin.... would never call that a fast spin right... and all its tempremental antics posted earlier...If the drum load decides it is uneven it will not spin the 1st time but hey.....give another drain and spin prog and it does what it should...normally...good job I have the time to watch over it...this machine needs supervision bigtime at 2 years old.Mrs. H
  • I am on my second washing machine in 34 years! The first was a top loading drum model made by Thomson (French I believe) the replacement is a top loading drum model made by Thomson (Still french I believe) but now badged Whirlpool (AG 613 1100RPM) - Made in France. Both have been bomb proof never ever broken down and this one looks to outlast me. The advantages - Two bearings, hence the drum is very well supported, two moving parts, the pump and the motor. The other advantage they are only 400mm wide yet take a full load (but the door is small), The disadvantages, they cannot go under a worktop unless you hinge it and they are expensive compared to others.

well after little consideration (about 24 hours) we recently purchased a 1400rpm A+ bosch wm. We really only desparately needed a tumble dryer but decided to bite the wm bullet at the same time.

Have no idea whether we did good or not. Decided to get it delivered after we move, but supplier has already phoned twice wanting to deliver DESPITE telling salesman we only want delivery after we move, which unfortunately looks like at least 6 weeks from now.

Had two disasterous tries with the tumble dryer before we figured it out. Much more efficient that the 1920's one we had before.
  • Sorry for late update - been off teaching mrbadexample how to make a pie  .

I was going to say that I'd spoken to DH, who said don't buy a Miele - long lasting machines, yes (and they are all Mieles) but they do go wrong. They are repairable but the charges are astronomical, and you are tied in to Miele as no other engineers can get the parts.

However, I'm a bit worried about buying Bosch as Bosch are DEFINITELY made by other people. (When I asked DH if other people made Miele, he said 'no, the Mieles are made by Miele. You're thinking of Bosch')

His recommendation would be to buy an Indesit and replace it if necessary after the warranty period (you can get 5 years with John Lewis).

Sorry to be a downer. I thought I would update as it sounds as if your suppliers are being thick, so if you decide to cancel because they can't cope, you've had my tuppenceworth! :o

  • I won't disagree with most of these comments. But having a 1600 spin hotpoint Vs the 1200 I used to have really does show the difference in wash and also how dry the washing is coming out.
I do not like using my dryer (coz i'm a cheap !!!!!!) so i'd say that having a 1600 spin will let your clothes dry quicker in the house which is very good for the winter months.

    Cheers
