I become an E.on Gas & Electricity customer on the 1st September, got letter from them to confirm i had switched etc, so i cancelled my Direct debit with my old electricity supplier Npower on the 2nd Sep, from my online banking account, (im aware that this cancels automatically) but i just wanted to make sure.
I recieved a letter from Npower this morning that was printed on 7th September, basically telling me that because i had cancelled my direct debit, i will know be sent a quartely bill on 12th october as they presume this is the way that i want to now pay my bill. Do they not know that i have changed to E.on or something?
Thanks for any advice.
Kev

You shouldn't cancel your existing DD with the old supplier until they have sent you a final bill and collected the final amount.

Then if they do that correctly, they will cancel the DDI anyway by processing it as a final collection, so nothing for you to cancel.

The fact you have cancelled your DDI may affect your entitlement to some discounts.

Oh rite, thanks for that Premier, well i have not long moved into my new flat and had only been with Npower electricity for 2 months so i doubt that i will be entitled to any bonuses etc but i was paying £36 a month DD with them, totalling £72 before i transferred
Any idea's on what i am best doing regarding the situation now?
    many thanks for your reply.

Wait for the bill, and if you agree with it when it arrives, pay it. :)

this bit is particularly critical with Npower as they peg their £100 annual discount on paying by DD, if you miss the DD payment on your final bill you can forefit your eligibility for the £100 annual discount and will need to pay that over an above what you would have had to pay had you not screwed up your DD.

get in touch with Npower, confirm when they're going to try to take your final payment and make sure you have them re-setup the DD in time.

Think for yourself a sec about Npower's traditional level of efficiency? do you really think when your supply switched they got the meter reading confirmed the same day and calculated and issued your bill and collected the final DD within 24 hours? I think not.... and you're risking your £100 DD discount screwing with things.

Should do. :) One of the things to check is that the final meter reading(s) from nPower are the same as the start readings from E.On.

No point. The OP was only a customer for 2 months.

Premier i missed your last reply, so i dont need to set up DD again? Cheers
  • I have recently switched from Npower to Scottish gas.
Even though I left the DD mandate in place for the final bill they still sent the credit amount by cheque.:(
