Eh? Lies from the Nationwide?

Has anyone else received their new card from the Nationwide this morning with a little leaflet entitled "We've improved your current account"?
It seems that improving your current account means withdrawing the ability to take out cash abroad and removed the cheque guarantee element.
Yes, that's right. They haven't made non-uk cash withdrawals more expensive like they said they were going to do, they've made them impossible.
How is that "improved"? I guess this account is now only for use by people who only travel in the UK.

Matt you are mixing up two different 'improvements' from the people who are proud to be different. The cashcard (which you appear to have) was been 'upgraded' to cashcard plus so you can no longer use it to withdraw cash from ATMs abroad. The Flexaccounts with VISA debit cards have been 'improved' by charging 2% plus £1 for cash withdrawals abroad from 1 Nov instead of 0% within the VISA Europe area and 1% outside it.0

This is a replacement card. The letter says to destroy the old card. If I've destroyed it, I can't use it abroad. I don't think they'll like me feeding little shredded bits of card into their machines.
Will they be sending me a second card that I'm expected to carry around too in order to use it abroad (and get charged the extra amounts they told be about earlier)?

And re the removal of the CGC facility, they will be withdrawing it as per 99% of the banks and building societies early next year, so they will be doing this in anticipation of this.Best Regards

You seem to have the mistaken belief that Nationwide are in the business of providing a service for their members. They're not interested in them at all, except as cash cows.0

Who does?
I haven't seen anyone in this thread demonstrate that? I think we're all very much aware that whilst they are "mutual" they are still just the same as the other banks really.
I don't have a problem with being a customer (rather than a member). I just don't appreciate being told one thing then getting another.

I agree with Nationwide's move wholeheartedly.
Obviously they've looked into this that providing the account so people can put money in & withdraw abroad free wasn't cost effect to continue it.
Did any other bank & or BS jump on the band-wagon in providing such a FREE service to it's customers/members?
It was good while it lasted. Enjoy that fact

This thread isn't about that. This thread is about them saying that they will start charging for the service, but then instead sending cards out that make it impossible to do it at all.
