Hi There
I went to Cancun in Mexico at the end of June. You have to pay around £38 exit tax. You can pay it in sterling, US Dollars or Mexican pesos. They take it off you just as you are queing to check your luggage in the departure lounge.
Hope this helps.

We took a mixture of Mexican pesos and US Dollars. We found they took both in the shops and taxis. If you take a debit card and use it in an ATM it gives you pesos.
We flew with Thompson. They gave you a pack on the way out with headphones (which you had to keep for the journey home). We each had a small TV set in the back of the chair in front and had around 8 films to watch along with episodes from various TV programmes. The time passed very quickly. We also had a snack and a meal on the plane.

Me and my girlfriend went to Riviera Maya not too far from Cancun in March. I can confirm that exit tax is payable in sterling, US dollars or Mexican pesos. It is a good idea to take some of each currency as you may find that you get a better deal with different currencies in different places.
Oh, and make sure you go to Coco Bongos....amazing0 -
Hi,
As from today Mexico no longer accept Us dollars! Take Mexican pessos only. Its approx 660 mexican pessos for departure tax.0
