winrar, winzip etc

hi

I know this it is stupid that i don't know this but i've just downloaded a file and when i go to open it it says it needs unzipping and a pop up comes up saying that i need to pay for a program to unzip it.

From what I remember I downloaded something for free on my last computer for unzipping files but I don't know if that#s right and where I would find it.

Sorry for being so thick!

Is it a zip or a rar? What have you downloaded?

What says you need to pay for a program? Winzip? If so, uninstall it, xp onwards can unzip without 3rd party software.

    If it's a rar, try 7zip

Whats the file you've just downloaded called?

If you right click it, and click "Extract Here". That might work. Or you might have downloaded something else which is trying to get you to buy their software.

Winrar provides you with a 30-day free trial and then will require you to click through the reminder every time you use it after that period. You could try the open source (free) tool 7zip and download it from here (clean download) which doesn't have the same reminder and will cope just as well as Winrar with zipped files.
My very sincere apologies for those hoping to request off-board assistance but I am now so inundated with requests that in order to do justice to those "already in the system" I am no longer accepting PM's and am unlikely to do so for the foreseeable future (August 2016). :(

For those seeking more detailed advice and guidance regarding small claims cases arising from private parking issues I recommend that you visit the Private Parking forum on PePiPoo.com
  • thanks, I've just right clicked and clicked extract here and that worked. I hate all this zip and unzip file stuff :)

7zips fine for singular files, if its a hugh file split into sections then 7zip is cr*p ~ only winrar will do

Izarc ( the best IMHO) and 7zip are Freeware where as winrar is trialware
