  • Looks like most responses are negative for the poor ham, then :(
  • Leave it out for the foxes, they'll not be too fussed.
I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.

Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.

If it was hot at the time it was put out, then perhaps I would consider eating it, but if it was already cold, then probably not - and if it wasn't covered either way then definitely not!
    Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!
  • OK, then ham is no more :( Thanks for the advice.
  • Food poisoning is great for losing weight. What can go wrong?
I love creative replies in this thread :D also the fly lying eggs....didn't think of that one :rotfl::(

It depends on how you obtain it and how you use it.

I was watching food network today and the chef (who is a nutritionist) was cooking for a buffet - she said that food should never be eaten if left at room temperature for over two hours! eeeeek! I have lost count of the parties where I have arrived about 6.30 to 7.00 and the buffet has been laid out but isnt opened until about 9.00!!!
being a bit paranoid myself - I tend not to eat anything that contains meat or fish at these events! and when catering a party myself insist the buffet is open as soon as everything is laid out!
  • Leaving foods at room temperature for longer periods does allow more bacteria growth. How big an issue this is also depends who is eating the food: food poisoning is pretty unlikely to do me any lasting damage but I'd be a lot more careful if cooking for someone more vulnerable.

I am mainly on about private parties bitsandpieces. You dont know how long the food has actually been left at room temp! If its professionally catered then (theoritically) they know how to refrigerate the food and how to keep it cool until its eaten! but, most parties I have been to at hired premises the family cater the food. I will NOT eat meat or fish dishes then. I have actually seen people leave cooked chicken out in the kitchen all afternoon then put in on the buffet table!
  • Doesn't bacteria multiply every 30 mins into millions!?
