ok, I have tried to remove rubbish with several spyware programs - some like Spybot S&D wont even boot - not even in safe mode.

Dont know if this will help identify problems, but on some google searches, when I click a result, it takes me to a completely random page - sometimes even ask!

    Any help appreciated.

install and run startuplite, fix anything found OK - assume this is easy to find?

run ccleaner, untick toolbar installation during install Okey Dokey

    scan with http://www.surfright.nl/en/hitmanpro Will Do

zoost/betfred/x10/openoffice - need them at start up? zoost (zoosk?) no, Betfred not for start up, no idea what x10 is so assume to be no, not really for open office

remove casinocontroller.com from hosts file c:\windows\system32\etc\hosts OK

uninstall spybot OK - cant do much with it anyway.

Thanks for above, will complete in morning as getting a bit late now!

x10 is a protocol for controlling appliances across the mains, switches, lights, cameras etc.

malwarebytes, make sure you update and do full scan, startuplite is from the same people.

the only thing in your host file should be 127.0.0.1 localhost apart from comments.

could you give any more details about the symptoms you are trying to cure.

Ok, last post tonight cos really need sleep! But will do above in morning. System is running really slow - is Intel 1.86Ghz Dual core 6300, 1Gb memory (as stated on my computer)

As above, when searching or accessing websites (but not at all times) will get redirected to another site, sometimes a search site, sometimes a directory. Had similar long time ago on different machine with a web browser hijacker - but as different sites didnt think it was this.

Also scans keep picking up same thing over and over again tonight. Not noticed prev (last scans 10 days poss two weeks) as didnt have problems until few days ago whern on net and put it down to ISP at time.

knowing what is being picked up by which scanner, and what the filename is would be useful. also is the redirect still apparent after your scanning (and presumably fixing?).

If it's in the system restore area, turn system restore off, and then back on again

also post your commit charge and peak commit which can be found in task manager/performance along with the physical memory total.
