Orange refuse to unlock phone

I recently moved abroad and took my pay-as-you-go Orange phone with me. Orange have no network coverage in my country of residence so I need to unlock the phone and switch to another provider. The phone had previously been on an 18 month contract with orange in the UK.

I contacted Orange today to acquire the unlock code and pay them £20 for the privilege, but was informed that I could not have a code until the phone had been paired with the sim for at least 3 months.

So I now have to leave my phone in drawer and call back in one months time! What a nonsense!!

Can anyone help?

Your only option in this case is to forgo Orange and go via a third party to help you unlock your phone. Since you're going to be paying Orange for the 'privilege' of unlocking, you may as well do it via someone else. also, after 18 months, I think the warranty is close to if not run out already. If you post the model of your phone, maybe someone here can point you in the right direction.

Some networks do have a minimum term before they'll unlock, remember that they subsidise the cost of the phone so they expect to get £ back in airtime usage.

All you can do is either wait or get it unlocked locally. The cost in the UK is between 10 and 20 quid as a rule.
  • What's the phone's make and model number?

Forget having it done officially, get the procedure off the internet and diy. It's usually easy.

Why pay Orange £20 when a local phone shop will probably do it for a tenner?
