Sky+ completely broken - thanks Sky!!

I've just come off the phone from Sky - AAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRHHHHHHHH
I called them because my Sky+ had stopped the 'pause' and 'rewind' options on live TV. I could pause and rewind programmes I had recorded, but not on live TV. Rest of the functions were fine.
What they have done to my box (ie. press this, hold that, disconnect that, wait 10 mins, press that again) has resulted in my box now not turning on AT ALL and I need to wait in for a Sky engineer to come round.
I've also lost all the programmes that I have recorded and wanted to keep.
So now I have to take time off work (best they can offer is between 12-5) as there are no weekend calls showing as available.
The box is less than a year old. Don't they make things to last anymore??
Rant over
*steps off soapbox*

If you want to keep programmes copy them to DVDs - hard drive failures aren't unheard of.0

Thanks Dave....I've learned a lesson I suppose.YOUR = belonging to you (your coat); YOU'RE = you are (I hope you're ok)

Be grateful that it's still in warranty. They usually fail just out of warranty, as they're designed and built as cheaply as possible.
Sounds like PSU failure?
You'll probably just be given a recon replacement. No free lunch, and no free laptop

I believe that a refurb will arrive in a plain brown cardboard box carried in by the Sky engineer,if its new it will be in some sort of coloured box with the Sky and makers logo on it.Good luck!:)0

Were you going to wait till next weekend for your engineer visit?
I had the same problem, early in the week, no weekend calls available. Sky suggested ringing again on Wednesday or Thursday night when "more slots" become available. I did get a weekend visit booked after ringing in on Thursday evening.

Now on my 2nd Sky+ box which is now playing up.
First box, the internal cooling fan was stuck on full speed. Box was replaced, now this one will record but will not play back recordings. Been through the switching off, hold down buttons etc but problem comes back.
Never known such a useless piece of equipment, whats the point of the "keep" recording button on the planner?? I've yet to recieve a box that lasts longer than 3 months!!0 -
My new Sky+ HD box failed with in 2 months of getting the subscription. I was given a "rejected" box which has the "Tested" label on it. And this box is lot worse than what I had. It is slow to respond. I hope they have given the same hard disk capacity as the old one. Is there a way to tell the HDD size in the sky box?

Oh dear oh dear....what a sorry lot of tales.
It seems that Sky is just as sh1te as everyone says
Well the engineer came and went and gave me.....wait for it......a Sky box from a plain brown cardboard box which I'm presuming is sloppy-seconds from someone else. I did ask the engineer whether it was a new box and he said there was no way of knowing.
There is no warranty on this box - just the remainder of the warranty from the original box (which expires mid Dec), but if it goes wrong within 30 days I'm to call the engineer directly, rather than Sky.
There is more ventilation on this box compared to the previous one. I'm SO fed up with Sky but I'm not sure the other options are much better.YOUR = belonging to you (your coat); YOU'RE = you are (I hope you're ok)
