They would not refund the product that I just opened by mistake. They considered it as 'used' even knowing that it was brand new. They would not give me either a voucher to spend in their shops.
Every normal shop in UK would accept the product back if it is new and in original packaging, but not maplin and that what annoyed me and many customers that posted similar views on many web pages.
I will not bankrupt with my £25 loss, and I sent the product back simply to express my protest.Hope Maplin will get message and hopefully(one day soon)change 'no friendly 'attitude within their return and refund policy
The simple reason for considering it as used is because if they put it back on the shelf, OTHER customers would say "Oh, it's been opened, youre trying to palm off a used item for full price," and expect a discount.
At work I've seen no end of customers open a box, (which they shouldn't) then next time someone looks at that item, they decide not to buy it because they think it's used.
Some people even have the cheek to try to open a box, see it's already been opened and moan that we're trying to sell something used, then go open an unopened box. Idiots.0 -
I'm surprised Sirmarcus hasn't been along yet with his "advice"0

Maybe sirmarcus hasn't invented an email address for the Maplin CEO yet.
Anyway, can OP give me a refund for this thread? It's rubbish.Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
Now 20% cooler0 -

I wanted to buy my daughter some headphones and popped into Maplins.
I asked the sales assistant if the headphones were the wrong ones could I change them and she said No because it wasn't a sealed packet. If I bought them , then I could only change them if they were faulty!
I shopped elsewhere.
Maybe the letter of the law but not good customer service.
So in essence you want to take them home to your daughter, have her open up the packaging, and when she doesn't like them you expect Maplins to take the financial penalty. They can hardly sell on what is essentially a second hand product at the same price.
Take your daughter with you or get her to give you the exact model number.0 -
I can honestly say I've never had a problem getting an exchange or refund from maplins and I (well my husband) spend a fair bit of money there each year on this and that.0

I bought an MP3 player a couple of years ago and asked the assistant to take it out of the package so I could check the size etc- decided to take it and the assistant went to take another closed package off the shelf. I said 'oh, don't you want me to just take the open one?' and he was quite surprised. Apparently, it's quite usual for customers to decide they don't want an opened package, even if it's one that was just opened for their benefit
