No think you have mis read me. Last years hotel had negative reviews which when i got home i discovered as last year I didn't know about trip advisor, this year whilst looking for my hotel on the nect i found trip advisor and watchdog and discovered the negative reviews, I then looked up last years hotel and saw the negative reviews which definatley had reflected my experience. Im saying based on two hotels i have been to the people on trip advisor have been spot on, which leads me to think the negative reviews of next years hotel could also be correct!!geordieracer wrote: »So now your saying you shouldnt read said website for your overall view on somewhere?
confusing.
All i am saying is that you should not take website reviews to be what they say they are.0 -
If you read my post, where did I mention that I believe everything that is written in Tripadvisor, all I mentioned was, if the OP was aware of tripadvisor and had to change hotels in Majorca, surely the reviews were right if this case, so why didn't they check before booking Egypt to atleast get an idea of what others are saying, I know not everything you read on tripadvisor is correct but if most of the reviews are bad then I would tend to be more vary.
When I phoned to book I was planning to book into another hotel, however the hotel i ended up booking was recommended by the sales clerk, it was a more exspensive hotel and she was offering a deal, flustered i booked without checking a review site, also i booked next years holiday before this years bad experience. That is why im nervous now of further booking of hotels that receive bad reviews as in my experience the reviews have been right.0 -
Sorry, my mistake.
If it is really worrying you, £70 odd per person isn't too bad to change holidays, I know what you mean though, how can these charges be justified, but that's just the way things seem to be with holiday companies, but as I've already said, at least you are getting the option to change holidays, would it work out any cheaper to maybe just change hotels in Egypt, travelling same dates, etc just a change of hotel.
I stayed a hotel a few years ago and the reviews were terrible (seemed to appear after I booked that holiday) but I thought I'd give it a chance and if worst came to worst we would just have to pay for other accommodation whilst away, turns out it was one of our best holidays and honestly don't know what the reviews were moaning about, this year our apartments had really good reviews but I wouldn't rate it that much, ok it was ok but not as wonderful as the reviews had made out.0 -
Having said that when I'm reading about a hotel I ignore the ones who claim it is paradise on earth for $15 a night, and the ones who claim it is a cockroach infested basement that reeks of wee...the less extreme reviews are the ones to read BEFORE you book.
Exactly...if we're going somewhere new and know no one to ask for a personal review, we'll quite happily check all our options on TA...we throw out those that get consistently bad reviews (sure, some could be competitors posting fake reviews, but I tend to think not the majority)...then we weed through the rest of them, making mental notes about WHAT people complain about...some people will complain about ANYTHING...and also what people praise...different things are important to different people.
And frankly, I tend to think that a lot of poor reviews are from people who did no research (other than walking into a TA)...you can clearly see people who had expectations waaay too high for what they were booking and were disappointed.
It's like anything, you have to have some common sense...but personally, I think it's a valuable resource, you just need to approach with some caution.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -

I love reading the reviews on TA. Some of the petty things people complain about is are hilarious ("didn't have my favourite breakfast cereal", "too many foreigners", "not enough English TV stations")
Earlier today I was looking at booking a break in a major resort. One hotel review was from a family complaining that they had the same bad food everyday for a week. The concept of eating elsewhere had clearly never passed their mind.0
