Whilst not 'everything' on tripadvisor may be accurate, ALL of the hotels abroad I have been to HAVE been reviewed accurately by the majority on tripadvisor. There are of course the few skewed reviews which are really bad (possibly from competitors) or the rave reviews (perhaps from the hoteliers themselves). The general reviews however can be gauged from tripadvisor and I always check it before making a booking. If the overall opinion is bad then steer clear, and if its good then give it a go.
I'm just wondering what Egypt Hotel is the OP referring to so we can have a look?0 -
It would be good to know what hotel.
Though it puzzles me why they are going there again.

Agree. I like TA, but not the hotel review section.
I think they'll be in court soon due to the amount of fiction they allow to be written and posted.0 -

They wont be anywhere near court as all reviews are solely of the poster and not the website.

We booked a holiday at a resort in Sharm in Egypt for last month.
Then I looked at the reviews on Trip Advisor and thought OMG this is going to be dire! But it wasn't.
People only really post up to complain about something and the amount of people that actually go through the resorts compared to the number of complaints - it just doesn't add up.
I have left a positive review on our resort to even the score up a bit!0 -
I've been to hotels/holidays that were slated by Trip Advisor and had a wonderful time, so much that one resort/hotel we're revisiting

Please don't believe everything you read on the Internet.:beer:Be happy, it's the greatest wealth

Tripadvisor have programs that check to see if reviews for the same hotel are coming from the same ISP - that's how they monitor for fraudulent posts.
Having said that when I'm reading about a hotel I ignore the ones who claim it is paradise on earth for $15 a night, and the ones who claim it is a cockroach infested basement that reeks of wee...the less extreme reviews are the ones to read BEFORE you book.
tbh I don't think you stand a chance of getting your flights moved for free because you changed your mind.;)Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

I am puzzled now, the OP isnt going to a badly reviewed hotel again, she wants to go to the hotel she stayed in last year that is good and has good reviews.
It would be good to know which hotel she has booked
To the OP I dont think you are being ripped off/overcharged etc0 -

If you read my post, where did I mention that I believe everything that is written in Tripadvisor, all I mentioned was, if the OP was aware of tripadvisor and had to change hotels in Majorca, surely the reviews were right if this case, so why didn't they check before booking Egypt to atleast get an idea of what others are saying, I know not everything you read on tripadvisor is correct but if most of the reviews are bad then I would tend to be more vary.0 -
