On which planet does a person have to advertise that they wish to buy a car ?
not too sure what you mean by this, but i have paid for adverts in my local papers and on the internet, because i thought i'd bought a car i then told all the people who called me that i was no longer looking however i will now have to re-advertise, unfortunately you have to pay depending on where you advertise.wouldn't it be nice if i won : car/cash/family holiday
:j I am a winner! :j

But why, let the sellers advertise and look yourself?Back by no demand whatsoever.0 -

I have NEVER heard of someone advertising when they want BUY a car. Is it something peculiar to your part of the country?Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
You could ask for it back but again, what's your fall back position if they simply say no (which obviously they will)? Small claims court is going to cost you £35 if I remember correctly, and I can't see you gaining anything from taking this route. The seller is in the wrong morally speaking, but it's time to move on!
On the subject of time wasters, my mother advertised a dented Peugeot - specifically stated in the short newspaper advert. Brain of Britain called and said, "Hi, I'm calling about the car? Is it dented? I don't want it then."
So why the daffy duck did you bother calling then?!?!?0 -

My local paper often has ads for cars wanted, though admittedly they do tend to be more specialist cars like classic beetles and jap imports etc.0 -

They also told us they had somebody else interested in buying their old car but we would get first refusal. I emailed her later in the day and said we were happy to buy their car but i wanted to know what would happen if there new car wasn't delivered on the 21st which was the date they had been told, she said she would call the dealership on Monday and let me know if there was a chance the date would be changed.
Today she text me to say that her husband has sold the car to the other person because they didn't ask so many questions!!! I thought the car was ours because i had emailed the day before and said i was happy to buy it. I am really annoyed because i'd spent ages trying to get the cheapest email quote and i had removed all my advertising and i had told everyone we now had a car.
Is it just tough luck on me? They didn't ask for a deposit so i hadn't given them one.
Perhaps it wasn't such a good car then, maybe there are problems in the car and they other couple didn't ask about.
I'd be lucky i wasn't stuck with something that wouldn't be worth it.0 -
OP - You do realise it is much easier to look at the adverts the SELLERS have placed?
No wonder you are so fed up after finally gettting a call then losing it.0 -
The reason i advertise is because i'm looking for a cheap, low mileage car, unfortunately so is everyone else which means that it's a race when the sellers advertise. I don't have transport and i have 2 young children so by the time i organise to view the car they are sold. Sellers see my advert and contact me before they advertise, so i am usually the only buyer they have interested so they are happier to bring the car to me and let me do background checks etc. As a few have already said on here, sellers want a quick hassle free sale and i fully understand that but as a buyer i want the best my money can buy.
The only reason i am so put out about the sale falling through was because the couple made such a big deal about me getting first refusal and kept harrassing me to make a decision and in the end i'd thought we agreed that i'd bought their car. I'd spent time trying to find the cheapest insurance quote, i'd told other sellers i'd already bought something and i'd removed all my advertising from the shops, internet and papers.
I have learnt to leave a deposit and not be so naive

Eh ? How many cars do you buy in a year? Or do you place one ad and have a queue of cars outside your front door waiting to be inspected by you ?
TBH if this is the way you carry on trying to source a car to buy it may shed some light on why the seller didn't want to deal with you..................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)0
