out of curiosity, were you able to work? i really thought that by now i would be working again but it wasn't meant to be, hence the drastic drop in income.
For a long time we believed we would be a working household again. Think accepting that was harder than dealing with the debt. At least it felt like we were doing something, mad as it seems I felt a bit flat when the DMP ended which may explain why I ran up some new ones. I tend to like to have Barclaycard around Very on the other hand is my vice and I hate it.
Back on topic, we dropped to one fifth of our income yep an 80% paycut . Would love to know what we wasted money on before :o ok I do know it was holidays and expensive meals out and crap for the kids.
    Barclaycard 3800

Nothing to do but hibernate till spring

how scary:eek: i've never missed paying anything (apart from one barclaycard bill in 2005 but they let me off the late payment as i was actually having brain surgery when it was due.....).
Don't worry just put them in the shredder...and laugh while they shred...ha:rotfl:ha.... always satisfying shredding a letter from a DCA. Don't have a shredder? Get one and stick it on the credit card. Everything not needed should be shredded anyway for security purposes.

    blimey! thats an amazing achievement!

i know exactly what you mean about having to accept the inability to work thing totally - that hurts big time.

if you don't mind i'm going to search your posts for inspiration on how you've managed it? (when i'm more awake).

this is the first year i haven't had a real holiday - just 37 more years to wait for one!

    OK

If you want to go BR, it is generally considered OK to put the fees on a credit card. Do check over on the br forum but this was true a few months ago.

thanks. i've posted over there now:)

Yep that's fine just withdraw the money well in advance. If you don't pay the CC's they'll send letters....scary letters...;) If you dont want them you could use the credit available on your CC to make the payments to the other cards.

am i really naiive - can you really pay a cc with another one? i'm not going to - just typing my token pound letters (pointless i know but it makes me feel a bit better:o)

Yes and that's how I'm doing it at the moment. I'm unemployed with over £50k of debt but with plenty of available credit. There is no way £65.45p/w is going to pay for living and paying minimum repayments. So everything I buy including the rent goes onto the credit cards. I will get a job again soon and want to have a clean credit score so balance transfer funds about and make all the payments with the limited income I have. I'm not technically paying anything off as everything is charged back to the card but the payments have been made and they are happy.

  • Hi Crumbling - you still sound a bit unsure of which direction to take but I just wanted to wish you luck with however you decide to proceed.

really didn't want to go bankrupt but i can't live in denial any longer regarding being able to get back to work. if i was allowed to work a few hours and find a job, no way would it be at the level i was before due to the broken bits of the brain.

i've done a couple of token letters for my own peace of mind (worthless as they are!) and i'm in the process of sorting out my car, phone and life cover so hopefully i wont be completely in limbo with everything for day to day life. household bills are more or less sorted into a different account now so at least we won't be homeless.

i just need to start the big bad form filling........

life never turns out as you expect does it? still, i have plenty to be glad about so although this is taking its toll fatigue-wise and stress-wise, it WILL get better - won't it?!

    thank you df x
