Empty property...pay for standing charge?

I think I heard that you dont have to pay anything for water if the property is empty.... is that correct?

The property in question is on a water meter so I have a bill for the standing charges but no water usage.

Can anyone help?

RIng up your water board and tell them the property was empty and unfurnished, this should mean they dont charge you.

Unless eash water company has different rules off course

I can only speak for Anglian , you will get charged "surface water tarriff" if your waste water goes into the system eg gutters etc , so this will be covered by the standing charge.

Its in a large block of flats so there isn't really any surface water. Although not sure who pays for the surface water on the car park / guttering on actual building.
