I am staying at Hendra holiday park in Newquay for 4 days, my wife would like to visit a couple of villages, towns with shops that are a wee bit different from the norm, any recommendation would be appreciated,
cheers.

Try Padstow, Fowey, Looe, St Ives and St Austell (for the Eden Project), Mevagissey is nice too.

    Wadebridge and Roche
  • Truro is also worth recommending, especially as I used to live there- it's in touch with modern reality but with plenty of original twists. :)
  • Spent many a holiday in Cornwall over the years. Can recommend St Agnes and Chapel Porth for out of the way beaches. Both have little cafes. Also the coast road from St Ives through to Sennen is lovely. All the little coves on the Lizard are fab as well, Coverack, Kynance Cove to name a couple and yes Mevagissy is great. I could talk about Cornwall for hours!!:rotfl:

I can highly recommend Polperro, near Looe, a traditional Cornish fishing village. There are pubs, coffee shops, art galleries and a few small shops. It isn't for the less mobile though as you have to park at the top of the village and walk to the centre as the roads are too narrow for cars. There is a horse & cart ride or a little bus that will take you in a bit further. We stayed there for 2 weeks in summer and it is a beautiful place.

  • Kynance Cove is beautiful - well worth the walk from the car park to it. There is a little cafe that serves lovely cream teas!

As mentioned, St Ives is a must but watch out for the seagulls.

But also the North Cornwall district around Port Isaac is also very nice (about 20 miles north of Newquay).:)

  • I would recommend, Padstow, Polperro, Mevagissey and Fowey. All of these are all lovely little towns but they are all very different.

We are going to Newquay at then end of Oct and will be visiting all of these places too, I can't wait!

Another vote for St Ives for shopping, also Falmouth. Both around 40 minutes from Hendra. Padstow also a good place- all a bit "touristy" but they do have some nice nik nak shops rather than the usual high street ones. Truro is a larger town but IMO mostly full of stuff you can find elsewhere.
