The Price of a Door Step Pint!

I've just got my milk bill from Dairy Crest Deliveries and they have put the price of 1 pint up to 51p:eek: . My initial reaction is to cancel the milk delivery and buy from the supermarket! However, I've always wanted to support the door step deliveries as I think its a shame to loose it, but is this too much to pay?
I'd be interested in what other people pay for thier door step pint and what do you think about door step delivery is it doomed or should we support this age old institution?
Thanks

i have my milk delivered, but as i have milk tokens, i have no idea of the price of a pint
i am all in favour of supporting them though- i think its lovely to have fresh milk every morning on your doorstepI don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

For a long, long time, I supported our local milk round and up until 2 1/2 months ago I paid 95p for 2 litres of milk. I had to stop getting deliveries as the guy expanded his round and employed useless people to cover his round in our area. They were delivering milk at between 11 pm and 1 am so it sat outside all night in the warm temperature. They didn't even bother putting it on the doorstep, they just reached over the gate and dropped it inside the garden. After complaining four times, I gave up and cancelled deliveries.I have the mind of a criminal genius. I keep it in the freezer next to Mother....0

I can see the point of view but I would still get it from teh milkman - then again I would be bias as I live on a farm and dont agree with how the supermarkets have driven down the price of milk - see the following thread:

Also to bear in mind how much the farmers actually get paid for their milk:
According to farm.org.uk:it costs a dairy farmer between 18 -22p to produce a litre of milk. Yet currently, on average, farmers are being paid around 17.5 pence per litre of milk by the processors who buy their milk – i.e. below the cost of production. The dairies who collect, process and package the milk are then selling onto the supermarkets for about 26 pence per litre. The supermarkets then sell the milk onto their customers at a range of between 55 – 65 pence per litre. A difference of 29 -39 pence per litre from which to account for their costs and profitWeight Loss - 102lb0 -

I support local producers as much as I can; my butcher can tell me which local farms his meat comes from and I use the local market every week for fish, fruit and veg. It's a pain in the bum having to go to a supermarket to get milk now but my mum lives with us and has kidney failure so her general health and immune system is usually poor - I just can't risk giving her milk that feels warm when I bring it in and I know has been sat out all night and goodness knows how long in the milk van.I have the mind of a criminal genius. we stopped using our local milk man when we bumped into our milky delivering our morning pint during the summer at 11pm !! pure laziness.0

I wouldn't mind paying 51p if our milk was being delivered by our local dairy as the milk was so much nicer (creamier tasting) from their accredited heard, however they sold the round to Dairy Crest and its not the same!
I can't see that paying extra for the door step pint will help the farmers, the extra must be paying for the roundsman! But I'm getting 6 pints aweek at a cost of £3.06 which sounds expensive!

I get my milk from the milkman as I prefer to support small business, if alot of customers stop getting their milk from him he'll have to pack it in which would be terrible for him and also for the pensioners & housebound who rely on him. I get 8 pints a week and pay £5.52 each fortnight so it's not too much dearer than the supermarket, my only gripe is it comes in plastic cartons now not glass bottles but it does come from the local dairy.Dum Spiro Spero0

Our milk was costing £3.57 per week for seven pints. It was being delivered at 8am, which is too late for us, and wasn't even coming from a local dairy. There are no local dairies selling milk so we buy from the supermarket0

I had someone around canvassing the other day for a doorstep delivery, and he was really funny with me when I said that buying from the supermarket meets our needs better.0
