Best network for IPhone?

  • They are available from all networks in theory. Getting one, as some on here have found, can be difficult, though I can't understand why the networls do this.

Network coverages will be dependant on where you use the phone. No point going for a network with the best coverage, if the coverage is poor where the phone is used. Buy / borrow payg sims for all networks and see which gives best signal where you live or use the phone. It is possible to get free payg sims, no need to load credit, just see signal strength. See 3g UK coverage maps thread started by me and see the speed and ping times thread for a general idea on how the network fares.

As of last year three had the best 3g coverage and they added 4000 masts after that. When three signal is not there you get the Orange 2g signal instead. But with T-Mobile merging with orange I don't know if we will get access to t-mobile network as well.

The networks are cunning and think that people will be prepared to pay more in line rental for a micro sim.

A lot of people do not realise that the actual chip is the same so that cutting a mini sim will produce a prefect micro sim for no extra charge apart from the one off cost of the cutter.
  • I would not buy an iphone, they are overhyped overpriced and overhere. The i phone 4 is only an i phone 3 in a posh frock. And in 12 months it will be out of date - not bad for people on a 2 year contract. It is rubbish on WiFi. Far better off with a Samsung Galaxy

Which will also be out of date in 12 months time too. Every phone will. I do agree the iPhone is a bit overpriced but that is deliberate as that is the market position they want to fill and their strategy. If you have the money and want it, go ahead and knock yourself out.

I find that signal on all networks is much of a muchness in big towns and cities these days with small pockets of problems. Orange and T-Mobile network sharing will be of an advantage in places like Scottish Highlands and other rural locations.
  • I have an iPhone 4 for work use and am suffering numerous frustrations with dropped calls. I firmly believe there is some sort of hardware problem with this phone - and its not just the antenna issue. I am not the only person having iPhone 4 problems, I know of several other owners who are having similar problems (and the www is full of complaints).
I have a Samsung Galaxy S for personal use. Although the iPhone is better made (and feels more solid) than the Samsung, the Samsung is actually functionally much better.

I have had many problems with internet speed on T-Mobile. I find Three very good. A lot probably depends on which area you live in though..

Galaxy in a flip top leather case i cannot tell the difference . Its the back of the Galaxy that could do with a less plastic shell feel .Looking forward to Frodo update and hoping for later Android 3 update .
Users should pick the phone they want/need dont mind all this i hate/love Iphone stuff .
A simple comparison of what you need and price of the top contenders is not a hard job .

The Galaxy S is actually due to be replaced in Q1 of 2011 when the S2 comes out, so it will be old hat long before the iPhone 4. Mobiles are getting like laptops; you no sooner buy one than something better comes along.

  • I had to take my iphone 4 into the Apple shop b/c I could not get more than one /two bars anywhere, and I was never able to download any apps due to lack of network. They confirmed that Three signal just is not strong enough for this phone & as a result I have just returned the phone under contract.. so I would suggest steering clear of that network (I'm in London too!!)

Next iPhone due out next June according to one story in a newspaper today. So not long to wait....
