Talk mobile contract

Hi
I took out a Talk Mobile contract online in July 2009, after seeing online that the signal would be ok in my area (postcode search). I got the phone the next day and the signal was a bit dodgy, but nothing too bad as I had a house phone to use and a work phone to use.
In May 2010 I started to work more outside, not always being in an office, so, of course, I actually need a phone that is mobile! The signal is a huge problem, I don't get texts for hours, I can never call people when I need to and they speak to my answer phone more than they do me!
I started by emailing Talk Mobile to complain and they suggested I tried the sim in a different phone, to see if the phone was faulty. Did that, still poor signal, so not the phone.
A few more emails and phone calls later, they sent me a new sim, to see if the sim is faulty. It isn't.
No we're in September and this still hasn't been resolved. I was given an email address the last time I called them, of cdunstone@carphonewarehouse.com. I emailed them the problem and within hours had an email back asking for a few verification details (name, address, contact no...) I emailed these back and didn't get a reply, so I called them again and they advised me to email the email i'd not had a reply to, to info@talkmobile.co.uk and state that'd i'd not had an email back yet.
I did this and got the normal email I get (they NEVER read previous emails and correspondence and you're starting all over again with each person). They say i've had the phone more than 14 days, and they can not end my contract with them, without paying £100 to get out of it (my contract is only £9 per month as its hard to go over your minutes/text allowance if you don't have any signal!).
I am at my wit’s end now and have no idea what to do as this is now getting beyond a joke. I have lots and lots of emails that I have sent to them, each saying exactly the same as the other.
When I called them once they even suggested that I got a phone from another network provider. Very helpful.
Anyone had any similar experiences to this and managed to not pay the cessation fee? They won't even allow me to get another phone with, say O2, and carry my telephone number over, whilst continuing to pay them the £9 per month...
Please help... Signal-less in Somerset

What phone is it? Some of T-Mobile's more recent cell sites are 3G only.
It remains to be seen if the opt in for T-Mobile/Orange roaming is just a SIM update and that the actual roaming will be in place anyway including for virtuals (as at present peoples phones would never try the other network as it knows it can't register) I wouldn't pin all my hope on that though.0 -
