HTC Smart

Any good for a 12yo girl? With perhaps 02 Simplicity for decent browsing/calls/txts?

I'm rubbish at this so would love some opinions on the best affordable phone for high school kids.

Want to avoid high cost eg. Iphone 4 etc etc

Thanks.

  • Browser isn't the best I think?

I had a Nokia 5800 before my HTC Desire. It was pretty good I thought, loaded with Skyfire the browsing was pretty well featured for the price.
    What about http://www.carphonewarehouse.com/mobiles/mobile-phones/NOKIA-5230/PPAY

    The 5230 above is similar.

Or for Android (only 1.6 though AFAIK) http://www.carphonewarehouse.com/mobiles/mobile-phones/LG-OPTIMUS-GT540/PPAY?intcmp=hp-h-sl2-b-1076
  • Three are best for pay monthly sims, plus you get free Skype and MSN (important to any 12 year old) added in too. Their £10 sim (clicky) is quite good - DD1 & DD2 seem to use more texts than anything else.

DD2 (about the same age as you're looking for) likes phones with QWERTY keyboards. Here's a link to the phones (clicky). DD likes the Nokia E63 and the INQ Chat 3G but they also have the Nokia 5230 suggested by Lozzaman.
In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move.

  • Missed the simplicity point. I personally wouldn't recommend giving a simplicity pay monthly SIM to a child although 3 is rumoured to allow you to put a £0 additional spend limit on the account.
Perhaps Giffgaff for similar or better value to o2 pay monthly simplicity, on the o2 network but with the knowledge that the spend can't go over?

The current tesco mobile sim only offer looks good too, 500 mins 500mb and 300text for £10/month .
  • Thanks folks, all really useful suggestions.

I can't see a price for that model of handset, I note though it is not android or one of the other popular operating systems, will apps n stuff be 'important' later on?
  • Another daft Q from me.

Why does everyone want an extra top-up of 10 included with a PAYG handset? I just want to use my DDs current SIM?
Do I just pay the extra 10er and swap the sims over?
    Thanks.

It's a sort of security thing, as long as both handsets were on the same network or the handset is not simlocked, then you should be good to go
