I'm not sure how expensive they are but a company called 'just you' do trips for singles with no single suppliments! My parents (seperately) use them quite a bit!0

Personally, I think they are quite expensive but if you want to go on a holiday and be sure of meeting other singles, I suppose they are useful.I'm not sure how expensive they are but a company called 'just you' do trips for singles with no single suppliments! Just incidentally, I got a Saga brochure(minimum age 50, I think) in the post yesterday and they seem to have a lot of holidays where there is no single supplement "subject to availability". It may be the case, when you actually go to book, the only no supplement date available is the 12th of Never! Maybe somebody with experience of them can enlighten us.0 -

Depends on what you want to do. If it's just regular sightseeing and exploring then just book a flight and hotel and go.
I pop over to Spain a couple of time a year by myself for a break or a long weekend and wouldn't even think about using a "singles" holiday company. I like to go away and do my own thing, not be tied together with a random selection of other people.
However, if you are looking for a specific activity holiday - walking, cycling, bird watching etc - then there are companies out there which do them. It's just that they tend not be be cheap0 -
i dont have anything in mind :-) i wouldnt mind doing as you sugest and booking a flight and a hotel however finding a hotel has been awful. the minute i try and book the price rockets because i am on my own, to be honest i think i might just give up on the idea :-)0

Can't help with Spain, sorry. But I found a fortnight's break in Icmeler, Turkey in a hotel that had 2 x 2 weeks at the beginning and end of the season where they had no single supplement. I saved almost £200 and it meant I got a nicer hotel than usual. It was listed in the brochure (Thos Cook) but needed a bit of searching so maybe there'd be something in whichever resort you fancy?0

we booked an apartment in barcelona through apartments ramblas and would recommend checking them - the price is comparable to a hotel but you have your own space and independence when you need it.0

Might be worth booking your own hotel and flight seperately ...if your confident enough too..could save you lots....more for sepnding when there, i hate being penalised with single supplements!0

You could look at NCL Epic in the MEd from Barcelona(May-Oct) it has studio cabins that are priced for Solos so a bit more than a 2share but not double.
Not cheap yet but I think prices will go down nearer the time.0 -
I realise this thread's gone off the boil a bit now, but the problem of affordable solo travel remains...
I scour the net for deals on flights, hotels and car hire and build my own package - sometimes you cant avoid a room supplement but you can avoid it with some sites or even sometimes the hotel direct will give you a deal. Check hotels on Trip Advisor but ALWAYS read all the reviews because people complain about nonsense things and whatever they didn't like might not bother you.
Perhaps we should start an MSE Solo Travel Club so lone travellers can find a travel partner if they want one.:money: Dedicated disciple of MoneySavingExpert.com and Savvy MoneySaver :A
