Baggage "pooling" with RyanAir

Hi,

So i did the good money saving thing and when booking a flight to Ireland and back for my partner and myself I said we would just take one bag - as we arent going for long it would easily fit in one.

Then iread this paragraph on a confirmation email from Ryanair:

"No pooling/sharing of the checked baggage allowance is permitted, even within a party travelling on
the same Confirmation Number."

Surely they aren't serious about this. If so, can they police it?

P.S. Thanks to anyone who has ever posted about Ryanair, airport car parking or anything to do with Dublin - we used this site loads when planning, and i do believe (apart from if we had booked acoomodation earlier) we got a rather good deal all round :)

  • I doubt it, just say the bag is one of yours and the other has their stuff their already because they live their or something. It's none of theirs! :)

As for Dublin, you will absolutely love it (aside from the cost of it all, Dublin is very expensive).

Have a brilliant time, i'm going myself on the 28th next month.....although one-way coz i'm not coming back to the UK lol! :)
  • TOTALLY Serious. If you & your partner turn up with one bag weighing 40kg they'll do you for 20kg of excess baggage

I don't think we even own 40Kgs worth of clothes...! Will be more like 10Kgs, it just seemed like a very unreasonable thing to claim. Maybe it is to prevent people who don't know each other cutting costs. I think we will go with the one of us lives there excuse if htey start to get in anyway upset!
  • your personal baggage allowance is 20kg, as long as your one bag doesn't exceed that it isn't a problem
  • reality check ...reality check ...it's just like people have posted ...it's to stop you putting the full 2 luggage allowances in 1 case and then coming on sites like this and screaming how you've been hard done by

Dont worry, you are allowed to put your wifes knickers in the same case as your Y fronts or visa versa:p
What they mean is you get 20KG each. If you turn up with 2 cases 25KG and 15 KG you will be charged 5 kg extra baggage on the 25KG one.
  • Note though..you only get 20KG if you EACH purchase the "baggage option".

If one persons says they have two bags and the other person none, you'll still only be allowed 20KG!!!
  • I went with my wife and daughter to Verona with Ryanair. We booked 'hold' luggage for my wife and all three of us put our stuff in there (less than 20kg). We then took the usual cabin luggage each. There was no problem whatsoever
I'm Glad to be here... At my age I'm glad to be anywhere!!
I'm not losing my hair... I'm getting more head!!
  • This 20kg allowance is due to go down to 15kg in November.

Some friends tried to take one case between them from EMA to Rome. I think it was with easyjet who were having none of it. They had to race off to some friends who lived near the airport to borrow another case.
