providing you have at least one active direct debit (paid at least once) set up on the account
In my case they started paying the DDs before they told me what the account number was - so I went straight into the red as I had no way of paying money into the account as I didn't have the account number

How long does one have to keep the account active (dd's and paying in £1000/month) after the £100 has been paid?

I'm assuming it's 3 months? Going to keep it for the 5% on 2.5k for a year anyway though.

I think you can run as soon as you get the £100, but much like yourself, I'm keeping mine for 12 months for the 5% too.

Q: To get the 5% interest do you just have to keep the account open for the year or do you actually have to keep paying £1000 a month in and maintain a direct debit even after the initial 3 months having received the £100?

I opened an account with Disastander and they screwed up on the credit card bit. Apparantely they could not do balance transfers dus to technical problems. trying to speak to someone has been a nightmare aaarrghh,

I phone up the Credit card dept and get through to MBNA, who almost sold me one of their cards lol.

Anyway I will wait 3 months grab the £100 and then switch to First Direct completely (I have just opened an a/c with them as well).

I joined them this time last year and you do have to use their switching service to qualify for the £100 bonus, it was paid within 2 months of opening. An oddity I've just noticed is that there are no Santander credit card payment details pre-filled on the current account online banking payments/transfers database, you have to fill them out manually, strange considering it's their own credit card!

Also, if anybody is thinking of joining them at the moment, Quidco have an additional £50 available for signing up through their link, although this isn't guaranteed, but a potential £150 is available for very little work!

I wouldn't call it very little work.
I estimate I have spent 8 hours so far in sorting out the problems caused by them blocking access to the account (so I had to re-set up the direct debits on the old account with another bank) and writing letters of complaint.
I won't get the £100 anyway, as there's no way I will pay any more money IN when I can't get it OUT!
And they didn't pay up on the Quidco either - currently querying that.

It says something when they have to bribe people to open accounts with them
  • Could anyone tell me if the £100 offer was ever available for the Preferred Overdraft Rate Account. I thought it was in July but they've just come back and said not so wanted to check on here.

    Thanks
