Keeping with Sky T.V?

Hello Everyone

I am new to these forums so please be gentle lol

Anyway I am currently coming to the end of my Sky T.V contract in October, we currently pay £24 a month for majority of the channels, but don't hardly watch any of them as we work.

Do you think we should re-new the contract or go for freesat?

I am not to worried about keeping it on as it's on direct debit and comes out every month, but some people say you get quite alot of channels on the freesat?

Thanks in advance

It all depends on what you want to watch.

If you cancel your card will become a Freesat from Sky card and you will get these channels.

If you have a Sky+ box and cancel you won't have any recording features - you'll just be able to view.

As Jem says, if you cancel completely, you won't be able to record on your SKY+ box. To have recording, you must pay a basic sub, think it's £10 ?

So (assuming you want recording) you need to decide if you'll miss things like Watch, UK Gold, Living, Sky 1, Discovery, MTV, VH1, Nickelodeon... or they're disposable and you'd rather be £14 a month better off.

I think you've answered your own question. Why pay £288pa for a service that you don't use?
A Humax Foxsat HDR will cost pay for itself in less than a year and give you all the Sky+ PVR functions to record/pause/playback on Freesat.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

    Humax Foxsat HDR - £230
    Sky recording subscription £10/month.

I calculate 23 months for it to pay for itself and remember, you'll get 100 fewer channels on Freesat than you do with FreesatfromSky and you'll also not get any of the ITV/CH4/CH5 HD channels either.

Freesat WILL GET ITV HD but will not also get the following SD channels - Fiver, Five USA, Sky 3, Viva, LFC TV which are on FreesatFromSky.

But the OP is currently paying £24 a month for Sky-not £10 for Sky+.

  • Thanks everyone for your opinons

I am going to sit back and decide over the next couple of weeks. Maybe do a bit of research
