Argh Vodafone!

I took out a Vodafone contract this week online, but have rubbish signal and I'm not getting on with the phone at all. I have rung them this evening to cancel, as I'm within my 7 day limit - but I've been on hold 40 minutes now!!
I called at 8pm, and their call centre closes at 9, so I don't know if I'll even get to talk to them today now. I emailed them this morning too, but they didn't reply which is why I'm on the phone.
Are they always this useless? If so, I think I've made the right decision leaving! Or is it just because I want to cancel my contract and they don't want to speak to me until it's too late!
Sorry, rant over!

Unfortunately, getting any sort of information from the Vodafone call centre is like getting blood out of a stone. In my experience, I've found it better to call during the day if at all possible. As is documented elsewhere on here, there are a LOT of unhappy Vodafone customers out there just now, and I'd imagine a great deal of them are on the phone to Vodafone rather a lot just now.
It seems to be a given that any call to Vodafone will last quite some time, so I'd also imagine most of these people aren't calling during their tea breaks at work, but waiting until they get home and have more time to devote to the call, so, if you can call during the day, you may have better luck then

Thanks for the advice, I'm not at work tomorrow so will try them during the day. Hopefully I will get a bit further, I've had to give up for this evening as the call centre closes at 9pm.0

Hope it gets through. :j
Upgraded to iPhone 4 over the weekend, but speakerphone was too quiet for my liking, returned to store now back on old plan.0 -
Were they able to take the phone back and cancel the contract in store then? I ordered the phone online, and for some reason so many of the phone companies seem to operate one system in the store, and one online, and the people in store never seem to be able to help with an query for a phone or contract bough online. I may give it a try if I can't get through on the phone tomorrow morning though.0

Ok I'm actually starting to get stressed now! I finally got through to customer services this morning who said that because it was an online order they wouldn't be able to cancel it. They gave me another number to call which is an 0844 one which will cost me, and said they can process the return. Now I'm on hold to them!
I'm getting so frustrated that no-one will deal with this - I'm very worried that the 7 days I have (which is only until next wednesday) is going to go very quickly with everyone ignoring me until I'm tied into the contract.
Does anyone have any advice?0 -

If you think there's a danger of the 7 day cooling off period expiring before someone acknowledges this, I would be inclined to send a cancellation letter by time guaranteed delivery method which requires signing for.
This way if they fob you off on the phone you have the backup of this letter. You should really cancel in writing anyway.0
