rebl43 wrote:Trikerchick, your socks have been pulled from ebay!!!!!!!!!!!
just had email for ebay to inform me....
i had an email this morning from someone who was bidding, ( but not the winning bidder at the time ) saying that the listing would be pulled off ebay, and that he would offer me £10. for the socks....there and then....
so i revised the listing saying that the winning bidder could have a new pair of unopend pack of socks identical to the ones listed.... the ones listed but washed.. and what ever...
he must have been miffed and reported it to ebay.... how sad... because he wasnt winning...
it was removed due to the 'adult material'....
oh well......i am not going to make extra money for this challlenge from smelly socks then....
but i have registered a new user name:D
and i could just put worn socks... as see what happens:D
but with no hazard kit:mad:
aaahhh well fun while it lasted...Work to live= not live to work0 -
How silly, especially as some of the things that are sold are a lot worse than smelly socks!
Surely ebay could see yours were a jokey auction as you provided the hazard kit!:smileyheaRachel xx0 -
I'd be very careful from now on, ebay will suspend you if they pull another listing.

as hubby .....said.. is there another auction site that they could go on....
he is really miffed..... as you right said rebl43.... there are far worse things on ebay... and as hubby said.. what about all those ticket touts.. that sell non-existant concert tickets.......
oh well.... with ebay... its either... black...... or white.....
and thats it... i have emailed them back...... but hayho....
but thinking about it i just put the picture of the socks... and just put used socks in the title and in the listing... there's nothing sexual... or erotic about that:D
going to have a cuppa now.....and cancel the 100 pairs of football socks that i ordered:D ( JOKE)Work to live= not live to work0 -
cooltrikerchick don't try and get round the ban, ebay prohibit the sale of dirty clothing it doesn't matter what you put in the listings to try and get round it, if your buyers can see what you are selling, then so can ebay and so can the person or persons who reported you. If you had an email this morning from someone, it is unlikely he was the one who got you banned as it can take days for ebay to react to a complaint from someone, it is more likely that someone complained a few days ago.
Dirty socks are a fetish item, I was going to say that if you don't believe me do a google search, but probably best if you don't!
There are adult auction sites, and even those aimed at the gay fetish community where the socks would probably sell. If you feel brave you can do a google search, but these adult auction sites don't often last long as the web hosts and such like tend to take them down when they get a bit too risque. I would also caution you to consider this a bit further, you know it is a joke and that's how it was taken on here, but too some people tjhis is a real fetish and do you really want your name ,address and possibly phone number going to someone who is willing to buy your socks?

good start to the week we sold one of our 2 free freeview boxes for £10 today could have tried for more on ebay but then could have lost so we are happy. then went to netto and bought spyware doctor or 1.99 to sell and when we got back found everyone is selling them for "3.99. we put ours on for an auction or 19.99 BIN. so hopefully we have a big profit to be made will wait and see though. havent got round to much listng like we wanted as my 11 month old is ill with bronchitus. at least its another £10 to add to the total though.back to comping in 2017, fingers crossed :beer:0

Can I add a generic word of warning about freely posting user ids and auction details on a public board like this. Firstly, it is against MSE rules to put links, or other identifying things in your post for your own benefit, and that includes your ebay user ids. The Forum team will remove direct adverts and user ids , but not immediately, which is where I think the problem occurs.
For me the danger isn’t in the breach of rules, it is what can happen. No one needs to register or log in to view MSE, look at the number of hits on some of the threads, that’s how many people are reading them. OK, now take the scenario that something you say here or on another thread offends someone, or for a laugh they decide to cause mischief. By identifying your ebay usr id all they have to do is register an account and win one of your auctions, they don’t even have to pay. That winning bid gives them access to your email address , name, postal address and phone number.
Many of us hide behind made up names on MSE purely because it means that we can speak more freely, we can ask questions that maybe we wouldn’t ask if we were being ourselves...but do you want that linked back to the real you?
I was stalked once, someone got my details from here and guessed my ebay id, I have no idea how as I’m usually very careful, and did the exact scenario I suggest above, it wasn’t fun.
At the very least , and the reason I posted this, is that if someone is offended by a person selling a freebie, or making money from something that could be considered a difficult area (Tesco vouchers etc) or maybe selling something they consider adult..you’ve given them all your details to report you. Looking at the time frame of Cooltrikerchicks item, it could be that someone reading this, not necessarily a registered user, took offence and reported the auction, who knows?
Please just be careful.

ye you are totally right soolin....i seen it as a joke.. but obviously someone is offended by it.... and its not worth risking my ebay cred..... just for a gimick listing...
so if i have offended anyone on mse with my listing on ebay.....sorry... ..and on the other hand i hope some people could see the funny side......
right back to normal.....and to the challenge in hand...Work to live= not live to work0 -
Soolin, what do you think of the 'code' in auctions, to help us find other challengers' items? I haven't listed any with it yet and wondered what you thought?
It does take away the direct posting of ids or item links but I guess it does still leave you open to identification, perhaps by a process of elimination. My ebay id is (thankfully) very different to my MSE one but, as you say, it wouldn't take much determination on someone's part to link the two.
Its a pity really but I suppose the only way to be sure is not to post anything like that on a public forum, and to tell people by pm I guess if we feel we trust them.Don't stress, relax, let life roll off your backs. For all those stuck for ideas, can I suggest you do totally random searches on ebay. Put in parts of words, a few letters and just search completed listings. I was bored once and did that, came across someone selling something that I knew I could get..went into competition with her and now one of my selling ids sells 30-50 of that item a month mainly to the US. Unless I had seen it selling on ebay I would never ever have guessed it would sell.
never underestimate what peopl ein other countries will buy, just look round your house and put in random words and see if you can find a niche market...
Good luck
