In the OP's defence i'm sue lots of people make the same mistake. Most chain companies e.g. Next. Dixons, etc let you take stuff back to any store and lets be honest here although it says in the T&C's who really bothers reading them when they're just after a blockbusters membership card!

Next, Dixons etc sell you stuff not lend you stuff. If I borrowed something I would return it to where I borrowed it from.
If At First You Don't Succeed, Call It Version 1.0 :D

i see what you mean but iw ouldnt rent a film from a blockbuster thats 5 minutes away and watch it the followng day and think "tell you what ill drive 15 minutes away and drop the dvd"

unless of course the OP went for another purpose eg to do shopping thats close to a blockbuster thinking he could the film off at the other store

I used to work at Blockbusters many moons ago (the Orpington branch infact;) ) :P and when i was there each store had so many copies of each film and your account is only on the computer in the store you signed up at, they are not linked together.

Each barcode on each DVD/game etc will only scan into the computer in the correct store where it was borrowed from, hence the fees you will be charged, you may have returned the film but according to your account it will still show as you having it as the store you dropped if off at cannot scan the item to show it as returned, least thats how it worked when i was there although things might have changed.

And apart from posting the item back to the correct store i doubt theres any other way other then you going back to pick it up and dropping it back at the correct store!

I don't believe thats always the case, last weekend i was an usher at a wedding in Bristol. I hired the suit from SUITS YOU(terrible company but thats another story) in Bristol but dropped it off at their Manchester branch without any problems. Although Blockbusters terms and conditions do state that rentals are store specific and I would not make the same mistake as the OP, I do not believe they deserve to be called an idiot because they rented a DVD from one blockbuster and took it back to a different branch. Most major chain companies can handle returns at different branches so it is suprising that Blockbusters don't.
