I'm fairly sure that Blockbuster stores are franchised and therefore the DVD's that they hold will be the assets of that one particular store.

*edit: just checked and they are franchises.

Save yourself the inconvenience of returning your films to a far away store by renting the film you wish to see, from your local branch! ;)

Unless it has changed in the last few years they weren't, have you got a link for this?
The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!

I don't think Blockbusters computer systems are linked with each other. I have a feeling if you are a member of one blockbusters store you are only a member of that store and if you go to a different blockbusters have to join the one as well. I suspect what happened in this situation is the store you dropped the DVD off couldn't scan it onto their system, saw it was from a different branch and just phoned them up to say one of their DVD's had been left there, if their systems aren't linked that store would have no idea how long you've had it. It's pretty shoddy really but I imagine its somewhere in their terms and conditions which you signed when you joined (although lets be honest who reads them!)

I've just found this on the website

    Renting from other Blockbuster stores

Your membership will only be valid in the store where you originally signed up.

To rent from another store, simply take your existing Blockbuster membership card to the store you wish to obtain additional membership with. The store staff will carry out a quick data check and then you can take rentals. (Please note that all rental items must be returned to the store rented from).

  • And of course fines, for such a 'crime' as this, are where they make said margins back - ha.

The ammount of fines i get i must keep my local store open. Strike a deal is useful though

In the OP's defence i'm sue lots of people make the same mistake. Most chain companies e.g. Next. Dixons, etc let you take stuff back to any store and lets be honest here although it says in the T&C's who really bothers reading them when they're just after a blockbusters membership card!
