How picky will Jet2 be? Hand luggage suitcase 5cm too big

I'm due to fly out to Venice in just over 2 weeks for a year, so obviously I will be taking the largest amount possible. Jet2 allow hand luggage to be 56x45x25cm. However, the suitcase I've brought a week ago is 61x38x23cm (including the wheels at the bottom.) The reason I got this suitcase, is because it has a seperate compartment for a laptop, which most hand luggage suitcases don't have. Is it worth risking it? I've never been on Jet2 before, but whenever I am on a ryanair/easyjet flight, people always seem to be taking huge suitcases, and most of them are only going for a weeks holiday!

Any advice appreciated.

  • your going for a year with only carry on luggage?

    Im not sure how strict they are but you should be able to get away with it if it looks the same size. Ive seen plenty of people get on ryanair with blatantly bigger bags.

    In my experience, they are like any other low cost carrier. If they suspect that the case is too big, they will ask you to fit it in a sizing cage. If it won't fit, it won't travel with you in the cabin.

    No, I've paid for one suitcase to go in the hold as well (22kg.)

    Don't risk it, it could well cost you a fortune.

    Inactive,

    worst it will cost is the price of another checked in item.

    like whatmichealsays, it's difficult to judge what 1 individual on the check-in desk or at the gate will decide. one wouldn't bat an eyelid, whilst another might have their jobsworth hat on!

    Well I've gone to the airport to test it empty (only live 10 minutes away) and it does fit in with easyjet and flybe who have the same restrictions as jet2. With ryanair, I could only just get it into the cage so I'll have to make sure that I don't pack too much when using them. It was a nightmare trying to lift the case out of the ryanair cage though. It seems that the cages are slightly bigger than the measurments on the airline websites, as theoretically it shouldn't fit (not that I'm complaining.)

    !

    Not sure about Jet2, but Ryanair can refuse boarding;

    We reserve the right to cancel your reservation without refund and to deny you boarding if you arrive at the boarding gate with more than one item of cabin baggage or if that item exceeds the maximum dimensions.

    If you say so, I never have any problems with Ryanair, wasn't Jet2 the airline that stated that they would not pay out on the volcanic ash thing?
