Hi,

I missed my JSA sign day because I found a job the day before. I tried to call but couldn't get through.

It was a freelance job and I only worked for 3 days, 8 hours a day. I haven't been paid yet as I went through a recruitment agency so I will have to either go with an umbrella company or create my own limited company in order to get paid.

Now I have to call the Jobcentre to let them know about this. Will I have to reclaim again?

Will I loose my JSA if I work through an umbrella or limited company as a one off?

Thanks

You will have to reclaim whether you had let them know or not, this is because you worked more than 16hrs and yes of course you will lose JSA for the week.

You have missed your signing on day, you have to inform the jobcentre within 5 working days to let them know why you missed it. If you dont they will stop your claim. call them and explain the reason why you never attended. I think maybe they will sign you off because you found work I'm not sure but call them as soon as you can.Or you may have to do a rapid reclaim.

You will need an umbrella, by the way, not a Ltd company. Umbrellas are perfect for your situation, where you're in/out of freelance work and signing on/getting a permanent job. An umbrella plugs the gap, providing you with wage slips and a P45. Having a Ltd company is a long-winded, expensive, bureaucratic structure, that would probably prohibit you from getting benefits - it is time-consuming and potentially more expensive than an umbrella as you have legal obligations to meet so would need a 'proper accountant'. Umbrellas are easy in, easy out. Your own Ltd company you wouldn't be getting the paperwork, or anything useful in your hand that would help your situation.
