Sky+ - Partial self install and warranty

I got sky+ installed recently. As I live in a bolck of flats and have a communal dish, the installation was straight forward. The contractor from the area came with the sky+ box and connected everything up.

After few days, I realised that there is only one feed in the apartment, so installed a dish myself. So now one feed has come from communal dish and one from my dish.

Yesterday I noticed that my sky+ recording/live pause/forward/rewind feature is not working. Phoned sky (thanks to the free no posted here :) ). The basic trouble shooting didnt work and Sky told me that I have to call the installer myself who will attend the problem for free as I am still in warranty.

Now the fact that I have installed a dish myself, is that going to cause any problem wrt warranty? Can they claim that because I have installed something myself, I am not covered?

Thanks
Vikram

  • That's usually cos the box and your card are not paired properly. I had the same sysmptons when I got HD. I just phoned SKY, explained the symptons you described and the nice lady sorted it out. Suggest you try SKY again, rather than chase an Installer.

When I called sky, they did take the box details (serial no, version etc) and paired the card to the box. But that didnt solve the problem. I have booked the installer to come on this saturday. I just hope that after seeing that I have installed a dish myself, he doesnt refuse to replace/fix my box free of cost.

I see, you are further down the road of problem-investigation than I thought. Good luck then:D
  • On $ky+ HD boxes there is a hidden menu where one or two satellite inputs can be selected. Could this be the issue?

I have looked at the signal strength/quality for both inputs and they are good. I need to try changing it to single feed mode and try to record now.

Got a standard Sky+ box? The installer menu can be accessed by pressing 'Services 4 0 1 Select'
