For DS1's 8th party, the game that was the very favourite was pass the parcel with dares!
Wrap up a pass the parcel present, but in each layer put in a dare. Then the child who 'wins' has to do that dare. I had to do the first few till they got the idea then they were off. It did get rowdy though. It was things like,
Talk like a pirate and ask if anyone knows where Polly the Parrot has got too!
Walk backwards singing 'I'm a little teapot'
Rub your tummy and tough you nose while counting form 10 backwards
My niece did an Xfactor thing at her party. Basically all the kids did a dancing competition, won a little medal each. Then an xbox and the lips game was set up, a dance mat etc.
When planning it, include time for them to run about mad, they will end up doing it at some points so it's best to let them get over with it. Ask them about games they like, from doing that we ended up with about 5 games of runner beans (runner beans - jog on the spot, jumping beans - jump, forget the rest).
Party bags, a nice pen/pencil and a small writing or puzzle book are usually more appreciated and cheaper than the plastic tat that just breaks.
Best of luck, DS1's 9th is on Sunday, I have party bags to make up and have just realised that I forgot the notebooks.0 -
I've had lots of great parties at home for my 2, I always do a theme and always refer to this website
http://www.birthdaypartyideas.com/html/party_ideas.html
Its basically other parents sharing what/how they did it, and has examples of just about every theme/type of party you can think of!!
I'm currently planning a 'Camping' sleepover for my 8 year old :hello:0
