Hello,
I am trying to organise a party for my 8 year old daughter, but am on a budget (aren't we all at the moment!) I have use of a room, but can't afford an entertainer or dj.
Happy to do our own food etc.
I have thought about a
britains got talent party,
xfactor party,
or a purely traditonal party
has anyone got any tips for any cheap methods of good organised chaos?
Any links for any good sites?:p
food ideas
goody bag ideas
how would i organise an xfactor party etc?
Please help!

I would have thought a traditional party would be the easiest and cheapest, like the sort of parties you had / went towhen you were young. Jelly and ice cream, sandwiches, pineapple and cheese on sticks, that sort of thing?
All you need to do then is organise some party games, pass the parcel, musical chairs etc. I went to a friends Childs birthday and they recruited me to do face painting, I am no artist but they had all the paints plus a printout of lots of face paint pictures, it wasn't difficult at all!0 -
Is 8 too old for princess party? You could specify on the invites that everyone is to dress like a princess (if you have boys coming too you could make it princess and pirates)
You could have a makeover table with some of your old make up (blusher etc) so the girls can beautify themselves.
They could play musical statues but call it "freeze" and the adult that stops the music is an evil stepmother who is freezing the entire kingdom.
Crown the princess (same as pin the tail on the donkey) - its really easy to make one of these up.
Musical lilipads - basically musical chairs - make lilipads out of green paper and remove them one by one. If you can't be bothered to make lilipads musical thrones would work.:happylove DD July 2011:happyloveAug 13 [STRIKE]£4235.19[/STRIKE] £2550.00 :cool:0 -
Has anybody got an xbox that you could borrow with the 'lips' game would be fantastic for an x-factor style party or a wii with the just dance game- you could perhaps be a judge and score them out of 10 and the winner get a little prize, or you could print off the judges faces and make them into mask so that the children were the judges? you could easily get the x-factor logo printed on a cake, and could have music related party bags ( plastic flute, some musical note stickers, maybe a microphone rubber etc ebay would be a good start)

You could get some edible glitter and jazz up the food with that..nothing like sparkly jelly to impress an 8yr old
You could do the same for BGT party just without the PS2/3 and get the kids to do their own routines etc to music...would be hilarious so make sure you've got a video camera too:p:rotfl:
I'm not really sure about duration/timing and all the logistics of a kids party as I only have the experience of my nephew & niece but the above is a few things my sister has done:)
Or if there are just a few close friends she wants to invite could you have a sleepover and get a mobile beautician to come round and give each girl a couple of treatments? e.g. Manicure & hand massage they're becoming more popular to do now and can be quite reasonably priced.

The sleepover idea is a great one - my DD has been mithering me about doing that for a birthday for at least a year (she's 9 now). A couple of DVDs, some popcorn, mobile nail technician is a great idea (or turn your dining room into a mini salon and do it yourself with nail guides, polish etc from pound shops
) - ring out for pizza, or let them make their own with value bases and various toppings. Let them loose and do each others make-up (which you will make sure they clean off before they go to sleep, or at the very latest before you send them home the next morning lol).
Instead of party bags, you could give the guests a little bottle of nail polish or pound shop make-up kits etc etc (maybe even just wrap them up individually and do a lucky dip for them) and their slice of birthday cake.
At 8, my daughter was way past the sparkly Princess stage, she spends her time now trawling emo-goth shops :rotfl:.0 -
How about a dance party? I remember a friend having one for her daughter and was really good, got some 16 year olds to do a dance routine for a whole song ( a popular single thats out at the moment ) , and then hired the three girls for something like £10 each to teach all the girls at the party the routine. It took a whole hour just to learn it and it made the girls day. The girls were all told to come in dance or popstar outfits, and then were each given a copy of the song as a present to go home along with cake. At the end of the party, after the food was served, the mums were all invited in and the girls performed the whole dance routine to the parents. Was really popular, and not very expensive, especially if you know someone who can burn the track on cds for you at the end. Definatly something different as well.0

don't do anything too competitive, half of them will end up in tears.
competitions and games are good - prize for the silliest face, for the best handstand, anything where you can make sure they all take a turn to win a prize!
musical statues is good!
don't expect them to dance to the music.
set them up in teams and play races with balloons.
simple party food with plain sandwiches, sausage rolls, juice that doesn't have e numbers in it...:DMember of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19
