you know what, I can honestly say that every aspect of today has put a smile on my face. :D

I've had a smile on my face DESPITE the Career Development Loan folk not giving me the full amount. At least I now KNOW what I am doing, where I will be living and how much I have to live on.

Gemmzie, would you and your OH buying the house at some point be an option?

and have you seen Memorygirl's blog?

Some point, definitely not now, way out of our price range. We would have bought my parents out (clearing their mortgage), paid their rent/mortgage in a new place and then sorted out my brother's half later (he was okay with this).

No I haven't, must read this weekend once my essay is done.

Sorry for making you cry tenmah :(

Thanks Tenmah - I think I've just ignored it as I couldn't cope with it. Now have to review the budget and sort out some sort of part-time job. Going up to Scotland this weekend to see the man and it is going to be SUCH a great weekend because I have such a weight off my shoulders (and I'm going to meet the parents - hopefully  not )

Gemmzie - (((HUGS))) You can't change people and that is sometimes the hardest and most bitter pill to swallow. Maybe see what other momentoes you have and you can keep - I have a box of things of my mothers (t-shirt, recipe in her handwriting, photo's) which are really precious to me.

In a way I have the opposite problem to you. My family home is associated for me with feeling trapped and frightened and without a voice. I really don't like to be there as I feel like I can't leave and very threatened. I've tried to change my dad to someone who thinks before he opens his mouth with limited success. It seems he is now capable of praising my eldest brother in terms of how many ensuite's he has (Clearly me and t'other brother have failed as we have none!!!) You can't change them, they can only change themselves and they have to want to in the first place.

Gemmzie, maybe a move is what YOU need.

It would have been lovely to have the bought the house if the majority of your memories were happy ones.
But in view of recent times, every time you looked at the boiler, it would have reminded you of the struggle to get it (I'm sure the boiler has featured heavily hasn't it) *begins to doubt my memory*

I think that you and your partner should be able to make your own memories together.

Beanie......I did have to snigger about the towel (or lack of it)

Yeah the boiler was a struggle, I managed to save £3k for it - barely a thank you. I think you may be right, a clean slate...
