How long does money need to be in there for?
I all have learnt is from others on many sites.
    Seek legal help if unsure.
Dont pay Private Parking tickets - they are mere invoices.

  • I applied for one after reading about it on this site. I was refused. Even when I appealed and gave them all sorts of reasons why I am not a risk all they would say is 'your application has failed our underwriting criteria'.

To me this is very puzzling because I should have no adverse credit rating, other than maybe because I haven't been in debt. What annoyes me is their lack of transparancy. If you take the time to apply for an account surely they should be polite and transparent enough to explain why they won't give you an account, e.g. because agency x gave you a rating of below Y which is below our criteria? Instead they suggest I need to pay for checks with three seperate agencies they use without even knowing whether it was one of these checks that caused my refusal or not.

Can they be required to give a proper explanation of their refusal? Is it worth asking the banking Ombudsman about this treatment?

I was wondering if anyone else has been refused by the Halifax and what they did about it.

The answer to both those questions is no.

No minimum. All that matters is that deposits total £1000 pm.
Straight in and out is fine.
  • The rules changed, you are now only allowed one reward account in your sole name and one joint reward account.

When the account is oppened you must leave £100 in over night to allow activation and then your debit card and check book will get posted.

After this period you can have a balance of whatever you want 1p or more.

    Hope this helps!

I'll just mention one more time that there have been no problems over here with a zero balance. :)

I was impressed as I bank with Barclays, i did an transfer last night, by the time I logged in the money was in my Halifax account. Seems also they have opened up 2 current accounts for me, not complaining will just transfer between the 2 and out again.

I think you can only zero it if you have an overdraft setup.
