Insurance claim Iphone 4 lost in post!

Hi, hopefully someone maybe able to offer some advice, I recently bought myslef a very nice shiny Iphone 4 (after cueing for 4 hours in Tesco!!) after a few weeks of playing with it i dropped it! Luckily i had already registered the phone with my natwest advantage gold phone insurance. So i phoned them and they honoured the claim, They told me the excess was £25 of which £22.50 i would need to pay on a debit card (which i did) and the remaining £2.50 would cover the "royal mail recorded delivery" which they told me to use. so i sent the phone off on the 31st august and still they haven't received it! i know they is a 15 waiting period before it can be classed as lost but assuming it is "lost in post" who would be liable for the loss?? Royal mail covers up to £36 which will not really do much! I would like to think that the insurance company would pay out, after all it was them who told me to post it, but after a quick chat with them today i don't think iv'e got much hope! please help!!! thank you

you will have to cover the cost, royal mail wont pay out, even the £36 wont be coming to you, its in their T&C that they only cover phones sent special delivery and then only up to the value that you insure them for.

The insurance co wont cover it, its up to you to get the phone to them.

An expensive mistake to make but one you will no doubt learn from

Even if you sent it Recorded Delivery instead of Special Delivery, you would have still been given a receipt with a number. You can check online if it's been delivered, but you won't be able to claim if it's gone missing.
  • Ignore the two people above. If you were instructed to send the phone recorded delivery and it's been lost in the post, the insurance company should pay out. Do as suggested by max above and check the position on the Post Office website to see if the parcel has been delivered. I'd also suggest you give the Reference number to your insurance company.

If the phone doesn't turn up at the insurers within the time period plus one week, phone them and say "I've followed your instructions and the phone has gone missing. This is not my responsibility; it's yours for failing to arrange a safe form of collection/delivery of the phone. I want a new phone".
In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move.

Sorry Oscar, I meant to say 'you won't be able to claim off the Post Office if it's gone missing.' That's because a £600 phone won't be covered by Recorded Delivery.

A lot of the time with Recorded Delivery to a firm, someone in the firm has signed for it, and it's been put on a desk somewhere.
  • Thanks for all of your replies guys,

I have got it in writing from a letter they sent me to do exactly what i have done, so hopefully your wight oscar, i will give them the 15 days and then start chasing!! heres hoping!!
