Hi
I am trying to book my first short break to a hotel somewhere near or in London. For DH and 2 DD (aged 4&7) and me!
We are looking to go on Sunday (Martin says cheaper) 24th October for 2 or 3 nights. Visiting the London Eye etc etc
We live in Birmingham and could drive (M40) or catch the train.
We don't mind travelling into London (30 mins max) each day. I have looked on Premier inn and Travelodge but there just seems to be so many options and it seems so expensive.
Can anyone recommend some cheapish hotels or deals somewhere west London/Greater London???
I really don't know where to start.
Thank you

Could you put a figure on what you consider 'expensive' and what you would regard as 'cheapish' ?
Are the dates you mention in school half-term ?0 -
The De Vere in Greenwich, Davenport House is showing as £49 for the Sunday but it goes up to £99 and £129 for monday and tuesday. It has free parking which is a real bonus but travelling across town is a pain.
Cheaper hotels tend to pop up around Heathrow which is an easy journey from B'ham down the M40. There's a thread on getting cheaper Holiday Inns/Crowne Plaza hotels and you can get really nice hotels around Heathrow with pools for around £60 a night for the family; it's quite hard finding family rooms in town. Some of them are doing 'kids eat free' as well from looking a couple of days ago.
Jurys Inn Croydon always seems to come up as cheap. I've stayed there once before. There is a fast train into Victoria from East Croydon station which is a five minute walk and takes around 20 minutes in. You're in the centre of town as well so there's plenty to do in that area.
Travelodge City Road comes up averaging £85 a night - it's new but souless and I was a bit claustrophobic. The one in Batterea comes up at £60 but it's a hole IMO - I'd rather have a nicer hotel further out than squeeze a family into a room with little light for quite a few days - overnight is one thing. You need to account for travelling in each day though but the kids will be free.
The journey in on the train is a really easy one - lands you in the centre of town in just over an hour from International. It's a stress looking after the car in London.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Premier Inn County Hall is near London Eye and seemed reasonable price. Or Southwark Travelodge or the new Waterloo travelodge. Check out prices on their own sites. Id go down by train if I were you, book cheap tickets and get lots of 2 for 1 vouchers. Less hassle than trying to find parking plus congestion charges0

Have a look at holiday inns or holiday inn express....prices for 24th oct outside or edge of london seem to be around £80..if you start you stay on the saturday then the price at stratford for example falls slightly to £68.50 for that night....thats not a bad rate considering that breakfast is included....stratford is on a tube line so should be reasonably easy to get to central london...the prices are quite high as I believe hat that weekend may be the start of hallf tern...frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!
2017 toiletries challenge 179 out 145 in ...£18.64 spend0 -
Holiday Inn Express in West Kensington is outside the congestion zone, has a car park (around £15 per day IIRC) and is a five minute walk to 3 different tube stations. It is an easy drive from the end of the M40

You could look at www.megabus.com for your transport as Birmingham to London £1 per person (but 4.50am start) or at 12.10 £3 pp on the Sunday. Similar prices on the return journey (including train from euston for between £1-£4 on the Tues or Wed.
If you look at the 2 for 1 nights Holiday Inn link Southwark is £64.50 per night for a family room for the Sunday and Monday. As it is the half term week a lot of the cheaper rooms are gone now. It is walking distance from there to the Eye.

Cheapish would be 50-80 quid a night for a room
Yes it is the start of half term. I guess the prices go up for those dates!I am a Mum and I run my own PC repair business0 -
50-60 a night a room. You'll be very lucky. You arrive when I plan to leave. Hostel are one option if you don't mind sharing. I don't think there are private rooms left in any of the yha ones. Here where we decided to stay http://www.tunehotels.com/our-hotels/westminster-london
They only do double rooms though. We recently stayed in the Clink hostel which quite decent and not too expensive.
They do four bed rooms but I think there fully booked for the time period you want http://www.clinkhostels.com/en/index.html
I wouldn't bother driving in I would train and underground/bus.0 -
If you find the Holiday Inn 2for1 link you will find that there are several possibilities for your dates. They will be shown as room only but you will be able to buy breakfast vouchers when you arrive for the adults and the children will be able to eat free.

Holiday Inn Express includes a complimentary breakfast, so that would save a bit more and they do have a few available Southwark £64.50, Earls Court £74.50, Wandsworth £49.50, Stratford £40, plenty more also showing available and all within your budget of £50-£80.0
