When you have the quote and settled on the providered, stop looking.
That way yous does not get upset when the cowboys do it cheaper!0 -
How big a difference is there in the quote from TRG and the new quote?
i.e. How much money/time do you want to spend on the stress of trying to see if there is a way to resolve this compared to the additional cost of the TRG contract?0 -
The Removal Group are brokers - not the removal company themselves. In my experience, they are also a terribly run company.
If the cancellation fee does not represent a genuine pre-estimate of the loss likely to be suffered by them then it is a penalty and unenforceable.
If they have not suffered the loss (i.e. they are able to cancel without charge) then you are within your rights to recover this from them. 60% cancellation charge sounds extremely high given that they will have a substantial mark-up on the removal company's charges and you no longer require any work to be done.0 -
Why dont you just stick with the original comapny? at least then you wont lose out?0

but if they were shipping to the other side of the world then things like container and passage would already have been booked in advance by the removal company - what are they going to do with that space now?
do you think the companies involved should lose so much money as i doubt they will get 100% refund from the shipping company either.one of the famous 50 -

Yes but the point is they may be able to cancel it - particuarly as they have not even confirmed the date.
Also, their T's and C's state that if more than 8 days notice is given then the charge is 30% which appears more reasonable. Given that the move date may be 17 September, this would be more than 8 days notice. Even if it wasn't - for the cancellation charge to double in light of a few hours does not, in my view, represent the losses which they have suffered.0 -
Thanks for all the replies.
The reason we wanted to cancel was we were offered a quote £1,000 cheaper for exactly the same service. We did get several quotes beforehand but this one came through later. When we confirmed with TRG, we paid a £50 deposit at which point they sent an email receipt with you have to initial and send back to confirm the booking. On the email it said you have to agree to thew T and C, however at that point they had not provided the T and C, however, we did return the email to confirm the booking, foolishly yes, not having read the T and C, which we didn't have. I do have issue having to sign for something agreeing to T and C we didn't have then, it is on their website but hidden in very small links at the bottom which we missed at the point we rang them.
The people were VERY aggressive with us, making all kinds of threats, insisting they had sent things they hadn't and received things they had not. When we asked for proof of their claims, they were unable to provide them.
I see now that DSR doesn't apply to transport companies, however, as they are an agent, I don't know how that works.
After much discussion with my fiancee, we decided to call them up today and see if they would still be prepared to do the booking, at which point they couldn't do enough to help. However, I would strongly NOT recommend the company, the staff are rude if you say anything they don't like, shouting at both me and my fiancee at various times. We probably could have clawed the money back through Visa but my fiancee is 8 month pregnant and its already enough stress having to move now, so we decided to rebook, begrudgingly. The Removal Group scored very badly for us, I will use Move Corp next time.
Thanks again0 -
Move Corp used to be called Midland Removals Limited

you get what you pay for eh? OP compared quotes and chose their original company TRG, then one a grand cheaper appears...does sound like a rather big difference for the exact same quotation. If it looks too good to be true...0
