Getting out of contract?

Hi, I have roughly a year left on my contract with O2, but really want to upgrade to an iphone and new tarrif. I have been told that the only way to do this is to either buy out my contract or get an additional contract.

Is anyone else aware of any way of upgrading a contract without paying through the nose?

I saw a programme last night where a bloke rowed a canoe out to sea and then pretended he'd died to get out of paying his bills. Nearly worked too. I bet his missus still had to pay his O2 contract though. :rotfl:

She tried to get out of the contract saying that he couldn't get reception but the network replied that it was water damage to the handset !

If you still have several months it might be better off buying sim free and using up the rest of your contract rather than just paying it off which would "waste" it.
