How much does cable length degrade signal?

We have a TV in the conservatory that is hooked up to a signal amplifier in the loft. The coax feed from a Sky box in the living room goes up into the loft, where it is split by the amplifier [previously used to feed the kids' bedrooms, now no longer a requirement]. I bought a TV Eye to try and control the Sky box from the conservatory, but it failed to work. Realised after reading instructions that it didn't like amplifiers, splitters etc in the way, so disconnect relevant cables from the amplifier and joined them direct.
Now TV Eye works but picture awful! Can only assume this is due to cable length [must be about 50 metres as it's running a long way around the house]. Am about to take TV eye back, but if anyonme has an alternative answer to the poroblem would be pleased to hear it.

Try retuning the TV that uses the Magic Eye.0

Retuned several times, no effect. Putting the TV next to the Sky box and connecting with a short piece of cable puts everything right though. So i assume it's either the length of the cable in total or a dodgy connection some way along its length. If I could rule cable length in or out that wouyld be a start.0

50 metres is far too long without the use of an amplifier. One or the other I'm afraid.Estate Agent, Web Designer & All Round Geek!0

Amplified distribution with magic eyes is fine, but each component needs to to be DC and IR pass these : http://www.tvlink.co.uk/acatalog/tvLINK_Amplifiers.html. are perfect as they are powered by the STB.
50 Meters with decent cabling will attenuate the signal by around 5dB, which is neither good, nor bad, simply depends on the signal provided, the Sky channel as it is sent from the box will cope perfectly with this run length sent directly to one TV.0
