5. Line the DR curtains
6. Sort out the curtains in the Kitchen
7. Wellies needed for DH and DD
8. Slippers needed for me
9. Winter boots needed for me

Hi there Boys and Girls.
Happy Summer Solstice!:)
I just wondered would it be worth us compiling some sticky notices for the top of the forum that give a digest for preparing for winter for new people to this forum? It would save them going through 100 pages to get the information they need.
Any ideas on how we could do this? For different types of properties or different types of areas?
Anyone know if we need or how to get MSE help to set this up?
Over to you. Chillout5892

A quick easy way would be to buy a net curtain tension rod (you can get them for a couple of pounds from places like Wilkinsons) and a cheap fleece blanket from Asda or Ikea. Sew a channel in the top of the fleece and thread it onto the tension rod, there's no fixings or anything so you can stick it up at the window when you close the blinds and take it down when you open them.
Thank you, that's brilliant. Will it hold the weight? I have just thought that you can get curtain poles with "eyes" on the end that hook into hooks (never!) on the window frame, might be sturdier! I think i will do this in DS bedroom too as that window is also cold even though it is double glazed with blinds and curtains!I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Thanks Frugalfriend for the reminder about the water shortage around Christmas. Must remember to get a fill a few bottles and the water bags we got. It was terrible, no water, no heating, freezing snow and 3 kids whose boredom threshold hit rock bottom!!0

Afternoon all
Well am enjoying the solstice as its OH birthday so I am having my cake and bl**dy enjoying it too!
Anyway I have spent most of today relooking over my list and have now sat down, found myself out a notebook and have compiled 5 lists which look like this- Winter Prep - House
- Winter Prep - Us
- Winter Prep - Other
- Winter Prep - Car
- Winter Prep - Meds
The house list contains fleeces I need/blinds/rugs/curtains etc
The Us one contains PJs - our sizes and other clothing items we need
Other - is things like a supply of dog and terrapin food, baby milk, baby jars etc in case power is out and I cant cook
Car - is my car kit for Owens car so I know hes ok if the weather worsens.
Meds - this is the medicine cabinet box which I will be stocking up with things like painkillers, nicks, olbas oil, plasters etc, and owens eye medication!
The back of the note pad is reserved for christmas list ideas which are already started  and I do have a savings page as well as a Disney page - as Ben has a video collection started but I can never remember what ones hes gotten so I've written them down and I figure a few charity shops trip will soon have him with a good collection since most CS now sell their videos for 49p if not cheaper!
so Ive had a productive day!Time to find me again0 -

Thanks for the tip about dipping matches in candle wax - yes, I'll definitely give that a go. I want to have some for emergencies when the wind is blowing and in case of damp.
Thank you.
