This is my first post so apologies if I have posted in the wrong place.
Please could someone help?
I bought a table on credit just before christmas and am not satisfied with the quality of it.
When we got it is was in perfect condition with 6 gorgous chairs, one of which broke and they could not replace the broken chair as it had been discontinued. They sent 6 different chairs, which turned out to be the ones we SHOULD have recieved in the first place! Any way chairs have been fine since.
Well, last week we turned the table onto its side as we were moving the kitchen around and broke the leg, we assumed it was our fault and repaired it. Now we are beginning to thing it is just very poor quality! The rep said he would try and get us another leg, been very helpful with all the problems we have had so far.
Cleaning the table this morning I have noticed all the edges chipping away. It's less than a year old, should it this be happening already, would they class this as normal wear and tear. I am quite upset as not even finished paying for it yet, and as a single mum will not be able to afford to replace it.
Any help would be apreciated please
Thanks

First off, it is after 6 months, so the onus is on the purchaser to prove the item is 'faulty'
(One could try the Household insurance if accidental damage is included)0 -

Whats the price of it? Im assuming it wasnt a bargain basement one as it was purchased on credit.
Anyways you could chase the retailer under the sale of goods act but to be fair they seem to already be fulfilling their obligations (by repairing t and sending replacements).
So, i would opt to pursue the credit providers under the consumer credit act 1974. This act makes a credit provider (CC providers, finance providers etc) "jointly and severably liable" for any fault with a purchase over the value of £100 (Note: this applies if only £5 was paid via credit and the rest cash, your still protected!).
This means you can claim from them and id push for a refund of the table.Back by no demand whatsoever.0 -

That is a very interesting piece of information if true, so would the credit card company not only be liable for the £5?The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!

For a change I actually agree with Freddy.
The supplier seems very reasonable so far but with a table chipping I fear no matter who you try to claim from they will insist on proof that it was a manufacturing fault"The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts."

No they become responsible for the whole amount. It doesnt even stop a £5 either, £1, £0.01 would be enough (however the practicality of this makes it unlikely) .

Providing the purchase is more than £100 you can put a deposit by credit card and the rest in whatever form you wish and the card provider is jointly liable for the complete sum
Individual items are supposed to be over £100 so if you buy lots of say stamps at £5 and the total comes to over £100 this wouldn't be covered.
It gets very iffy when dealing with groups of items that total up to over £100 although in the OPs case I would say they would be covered"The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts."

I agree, i once asked if id be covered for an ikea bed, as they are all separate items (2 priced at £99 wouldnt you know it) but they are all for one "item". Never got a definitive response lol....Back by no demand whatsoever.0 -

My view on that is that it would be covered as all the individual items made a complete unit."The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts."

It was £599.00 We made the repair on the leg, they said they would try and get us a new leg but think it was said to keep us quiet.
Thanks for your advice I will try and draft a letter tonight4743hudsonj wrote: »Whats the price of it? Im assuming it wasnt a bargain basement one as it was purchased on credit.
