and reckon that I can live with that authoritarian capitalist Bendix after all :rotfl:I can live with being called "wishy-washy" (although nobody who knew me would be saying it) - but "liberal" ???? Now I really am offended :)

Is it wrong that I felt a little bit tingly and excited when i read that?

Good to see you back SarEl.

Don't get offended that I called you a liberal. I call anyone slightly left of Genghis Khan a pinko, so being called a liberal is actually a sign of grudging respect

But for the curious, yes, we do have computers and they are often far more sophisticated systems than other companies of similar sizes would have. They have to be - we can neither do without them not can we have any risk of hacking. In fact our Chambers is considered quite "groovy" by quite a few others - all of us carry hi-spec ThinkPads, and actually rarely use paper at all. They are more secure, can be used anywhere paper can, are more tranferable in information terms (no pointless typing up from scrappy handwriting), and you can while away the hours sitting around courtrooms (which can at times be longer than time spent in the courtroom!). I consider mine to be a member of the family :)

Absolutely. Documents are the bread and butter of lawyers so it's incredibly important to have proper document management and security. For large firms there is no use relying on native Windows file systems. Then these systems feed into billing and time capturing and everything needs to be secure - especially when conflicts within the firm exist. One group of employees are often prevented from seeing documents that are being workied on by their colleagues because of a conflict of interest. So - it's a juxtaposition of the old tradition and and the new hi tech!

Anyway - whilst I don't regularly post on here (nothing significant to add usually), I do lurk and I am glad to see you back. .

Taken that way. But if this is what you say to the people you almost like - what on earth do you reserve for those you don't??? Oh wait, don't tell me - the board may not recover!
• SarEl - your advice to me was spot on and very insightful. It would be such a shame for you to go when so many people think you're fab. ETA just seen that you haven't left. Very good!
• Wow, it seems there's nowhere on this here internet that you can just have a pleasant chat. I'm as guilty as anyone of trolling through the threads that have turned into flame wars, for something to do of a Saturday morning that puts off mopping the kitchen floor for a little while longer if nothing else.

SarEl, I apologise if starting this thread has caused any further hassle to you and I for one am glad you will still be here. There are people whose idea of fun is to be in your face rude and they may spoil many a thread, but it's the insidious ones that get my goat more. This thread was a note of thanks to SarEl for a considered and professional opinion, and it was SarEl I was hoping to hear from when I made the original thread that I am thanking her for. I pay attention to those whose opinions I respect and all the rest is just kids making noise.

There is no need to apologise, and it hasn't caused me any hassle (other than emptying my PM's!). I'm pleased that the advice helped out.
• SarEl helped me today and I appreciate the advice and the time she took to answer my query. If you are reading this SarEl thank you!!!
