I find it extraordinary that people can be offended by posts on an internet forum.

My word, if you get offended by a post by an anonymous person on the internet, that smacks of some serious self-esteem issues.

I quite often think that some of the more aggressive comments, which then attract 'thanks' and additional posts of support by another, are probably one and the same person. Coming on under a different ID (or ID's even) to pretend they have more support for their nasty comments than they actually have.

Personally, I once did not like being told by SarEl to refrain from keeping a thread going by commenting further, and told SarEl so. Having said that, I have also commented or thanked SarEl for her excellent contributions and advice before too.

A sorry loss and I sincerely hope SarEl reconsiders. Frankly, at least she has constructive things to say, which is more than can be said for some. Thankfully, those who'd prefer her to continue contributing outnumber those who don't.

Agreed. However, all a bit late.

We are mainly adults and should be able to disagree without it getting personal. Sadly not always the case.

Sadly this forum is now full of keyboard warriors who most probably wouldn't say boo to a goose in real life.

I think the reason people take exception is because there are a large number of us who have received such good advice on here that has really transformed our lives (by getting out of debt in my instance) that when we get criticised whilst trying to help somebody (ie putting something back) that we DO take it personally.

I have this pie-eyed idea that we are a community but every day that is being eroded - I guess some of us value this website very highly after the changes it has made to us personally !

I don't think anyone wishes her to stop contributing. The nearest I can recall is me expressing the wish she would let threads stand a little while before posting.

DVS, this started as a thread thanking someone for their help.

Someone you have had a very public and releatively prolonged (in internet terms) disagreement with.

Now this thread is partly about you, instead of a thank you.

What is it going to take for you to let it lie?

No, for I do not control you, or the internets, nor have domain over anything much.

I'm just dissappointed in such persistent behaviour to no useful end (in my opinion) from someone whose opinion I usually respect.

Discretion would suit you better.

There are loads of oblique references to me from the beginning. All troll ID has been set up to stalk me, so forgive me if I come back here in my own name. I don't see this as an issue of Good vs Evil and I don't find it necessary to feel excluded from the discussion. I have not been the one to put up a thread on this and I am not going to be so crass as to put one up. This one will do, because it is the content of this one I want to comment on.

you will also, I know, not care if I put you on ignore, which I now feel I have to, because the sniping is so unpleasant, and no amount of opinion will convince you that you are making people uncomfortable.

Normally I would discuss this reasonabley off list but you have already indicaated that you will not do so.

But to cut to the point - I swung by to check my PM's - please, everybody stop sending me them! I am very grateful for all the messages of support, and, to go back to my roots, gobsmacked by the thread. But all the PM's have filled my box (which is now almost empty again) and there are people who PM employment law stuff that they need advice on, so thanks so much, but can you leave the space for them because they need it more!

But I have reconsidered, and reckon that I can live with that authoritarian capitalist Bendix after all :rotfl:I can live with being called "wishy-washy" (although nobody who knew me would be saying it) - but "liberal" ????
