Messages locked forgot password

Hi my daughter wants to buy her friends samaung jet mobile however her friend put a password on her messages and has forgot the password. Is it worth my daughter buying this mobile (for £15, cheap I know) and is there a way of unlocking the message lock?

It's taken me some time, but I think I've found out how to restore the phone to its original factory settings. The Samsung website says:

The customised functions can be restored to their original settings by going to Phone Settings --> Reset Settings or Menu -> Settings -> Master Reset

Yes unfortunately it's not possible to reset it yourself. I had to take it to a shop and pay £15 to have it wiped clean and reset. However it works well and it still worked out to be a bargin. Happy days
