Yep, I don't always use labels - depends how big the envelope is and how easy to obliterate old address. As to whether labels end up cheaper than the envelopes, dunno if you buy new - but in a sort of MSE way, before MSE existed, Viking had an offer on labels such that if one bought multiple packs, could get a free cordless phone. We wanted the phone and decided that buying the labels was the cheapest way to get the phone.
So I now have enough labels to last a lifetime!!0
